My interview took place on 20/02/2013 and scheduled for 8am. I arrived at the que at about 7h30am. Que was quite long already. Was a bit nervous because I did not pay the fee before. A lady came and checked everybody's apt letter. I told her that I did not have an MVC receipt. Not sure what she said but something about staying in the que. (Huh...??)
Qued for about 25 minutes before I reached the security checks. Showed the friendly security guy my apt letter and again confessed my omission about not paying the visa fee. He didn't say anything and waived me through! (You don't say!!! )
Now I reach the reception desk and again I'm about to plead guilty and confess when the guy says I should take a seat after checking my apt letter. ....!! (Knock me over with a feather, will you please...!!)
I sit down and wait for my number to be called: 1910. After about 40+ minutes my number's called to "window 14, please". Young asian guy on the other side of the window (Sigh of relief it's not soft-spoken-but-can-be-rude-temperamental-but-on-a-good-day-nice asian lady).
Soon after exchanging polite greetings, like a stuck record I repeat that i did not pay the fee. He says, "that's okay, let's do you paperwork first then you can pay the fee two window's away”. (Sheesh and to think I’ve been stressing about this all night AND morning!!!)
He asks the following; Apt letter, passport, birth certificate & copy, police certificates & copies, financial doc & finally 2 USA –sized passport pics. Then he hands over x-ray CD which he says I should carry on with hand luggage when i travel to the US. He ask me when I plan to travel and advises me to be in the States by 7th June for the latest. Hands me slip to pay visa fee two windows away and return receipt to him. Pink slip and some papers are handed over to me. I’m told to wait and that next time I’ll be called by name.
So I return and sit next to two guys also with pink slips, one of whom I recognise later as one of the VJ members. His name’s called and he returns fairly quickly looking very happy. We congratulate him. He wishes us good luck and off he goes. I think I hear my number being called and off i go to window 16 just to find out I misheard. It happens the second time again and again its not me (Stress is making me hear things) Third time lucky and I’m to window 16. Young Black lady... Very friendly and off we go...
Fingerprints and oath: Questions were about how we met, when we met, what I liked about him, how did we spend the time together during the first meeting, when did we talk about marriage for the first time, how did he propose and where, his job, my job, did I meet his family, did he meet my family and what did my family think of him. Now this questioned is asked a few more times (Mmh what does she know..)
So now I’m so comfortable with this young lady I offer more than she asked for and I got in a few questions in too. And then she said: I’m happy to inform you that your visa is approved! I was extremely happy and just about heard the rest of what she had to say...
On the whole the interview was a very pleasant experience. Here’s wishing everyone else the same. God Bless!
