My appointment was at 10am. I arrived around 9:30 ish. I had parked right across the street in a parkade (costs about 20 bucks). I'm sure there is cheaper parking in the area but I was in a hurry and paid for the convenience.
The entrance is just to the side of the Manulife building and you will see people lined up and security guards screening people. If you are for a K1 visa just tell them and they will call upstairs to confirm. You will then be asked if you have any of the non-allowable items on the poster. HINT: do not bring a backpack or large purse, you will be turned away! Also no sealed envelopes except for the medical envelope which they know has to remain sealed.
Once they let you through screening, you line up in the corral and a security guard will let people in the door around 6 at a time or so. There is a small flight and a half of stairs then once in the building you are screened again, told to empty pockets, take belts off etc and put your items in a tub and go thru a metal detector. There is a bathroom in this area beside the elevator. Use if needed before you go up to the 20th floor. A guard will usher people into the elevator and escort you to the 20th floor.
NOTE: Once you get to the 20th floor and let in the door of the processing area, if you are K1 - TURN TO THE LEFT AND GO TO WICKET B! Noone told me this and I was looking around clueless wondering why everyone had a number and I didn't. I had to ask and was told K1s go to wicket B. Flip the switch to let them know someone is there and someone will come right away.
You will get asked for your D156 (x2) with 2 photos, then your D156K, then birth certificate (and make a copy), your medical exam, your (or your fiance's) divorce certificate (if any), and police certificate. HINT: If you are a divorced female with a previous last name, make sure that previous name is on the certificate (ask for it to be put in brackets), I am currently waiting on a proper one and have to courier it to them. After a few moments, you will get a number and you are to sit and wait to be called to wicket 3 for digital finger printing. I waited about an hour, the longest part about this process is the waiting!
After digital fingerprinting you will sit and wait just a few moments and get called to a different window and you will swear an oath. I was asked how we met, what we do for a living, how are we maintaining a relationship and where will we be living. Mostly she was just typing. She was then looking through all my papers (I had paperwork for a co-sponsor and that wasn't a problem). She said everything looks great and I just needed to provide the proper police certificate with my maiden name listed and would be given instructions on how to submit that. After they receive it, I'll receive my visa in 3-5 business days. She then congratulated me! I'll be most happy once it is in my hot little hands!
