My appointment was at 9am but I arrived at the embassy at 6.45am since I heard it was first come first served! Had a bit of an issue getting in the building when security checked my appointment letter it was in my maiden name but my passport was in my married name. I had already spoken to the NVC and emailed the embassy about this and they both said it wasn't an issue but I started getting worried when the security man said he didn't want to let me in! The woman who was checking the names on the list called someone inside the embassy and they gave me the all clear to enter. I also showed them my birth certificate and marriage certificate to prove my name change. So, after that was cleared up I made it in and was given my number. I got in the building at 7.45am.
Within about 10 minutes I was called to the window and the guy took my fingerprints and got me to sign some documents and then he gave me my pink courier slip to fill in. Only strange thing he asked me for was my father in laws birth certificate or copy of his passport (he is my co sponsor) I didn't have this with me and have never been asked for this in the whole year this process has taken! But he said he could check out his passport online and he would have to 'see if this was alright'. He told me to take a seat and wait to be called for my interview.
I have to say I was starting to get worried that I didn't have this document and it took nearly an hour to get called for my interview so I was sitting panicking and convincing myself it was all going wrong! However, I got called to window 16 and was met by a really lovely woman who was so smily and instantly put me at ease. She asked me the following questions,
Where did you meet your husband?
Where does he live?
How did the relationship progress?
When did you first talk about marriage?
Tell me about the engagement?
Were you surprised by the proposal?
What are his family like?
Then she said 'everything is in order I am happy to approve your visa'
I was so overwhelmed I started crying which was kind of embarrassing but they were happy tears!
I went to pay the courier and literally skipped out of the building! The whole thing was over with by 10am.
Very excited to be reunited with my husband in 2 weeks time
