Hi All, Had my interview last Friday and yipeeee I got approved. Now little details so it may help someone else.
I was dreading that the snow might hinder my travelling to the embassy but luckily it only started to snow when I was leaving the embassy. I got there around 7am and went to the cafe next to Goulds pharmacy and they were a nice bunch.
I would recommend anyone to come early have a cup of tea and wait till 7:20 and head out to the embassy. The queue was already building up it doesn't matter if you are going in from an immigrant visa as (my opinion) only few people were there for "I" visas.
Waiting inside is a pain, I don't wear a watch and I left my mobile at Gould's so I was a little restless but ignored it and started counting chickens with every "N" number passing me by.
Finally they called me and met a nice older gentlemen who actually had a strong Italian or Spanish accent but very soft spoken, he actually put me at ease by speaking very politely and nicely. I did the finger print routine, and they didn't ask any documents from me and I have already supplied extra pictures when I submitted documents to NVC so nothing to give.
Then back to the waiting room and counting my chickens again. Finally after a very long time ..... when I was getting desperate for a cup of tea I heard my number called out. Anyone reading this make a note that all the "I" numbers were mostly called out by someone rather than the automated machine call up.... so keep an ear out for the call.
I met this gentleman, he was quiet young, very well dressed and started the interview very positive. For some reason when I saw him I had a very positive outlook and was very calm and was at ease. I had a binder full of documents that I have prepared but I left that in my bag in case I need it. See below my content list, all the things I can think of .... hope this might help someone else in case you are preparing your documents.
After making an oath we had a good long chat for about 15-20 minutes. Questions he asked me was:
how we met?
what I like about her?
How we got married?
how has the relationship progressed?
what was the last thing we disagreed on?
what are my planning to do in the US?
... and generally just questions a curious friend would ask and there was no tricky questions.
But he did throw a curve ball, I had a co-sponsor and she was a very old friend of mine and he was stating that that the sponsor is not going to give me money if I need it, and all I did was tell the truth, which is "No he will not give me money", but explained to him that I have savings which will be enough to support me for 6 month and also that I'm planning to get a transfer of my job so financial aspects wouldn't be a big deal.
Afterwards he said happy words of "your visa is approved" ..... I thanked him and I really wished I could shake his hand and show my gratitude more but the glass was in the way
Best part of this conversation was this gentleman was willing to listen and make the whole interview process into a good nice chat, very happy I met this genetleman.
Then I paid for the courier and got my phone and called my wife who started to scream and cry at the same time . Note that the gentleman never asked me for any evidence so all my preparation was a little waste but it was worth being prepared as this is a life changing event and I didnt want to take any risk.
Hope this will be usefull for someone and wish all of you best of luck.... my advice to all "be patient and be prepared".
