My fiance's visa was approved today, and I owe all the thanks to Jesus! We worked really hard to put all the documents together, gathered as much evidence as we could, and were lucky to have a dependable family member to be the co sponsor for the affidavit of support. But being that we were going through Lagos embassy and considering the unfortunate circumstances of other VJ members, I was always worried that the CO would be too picky. I thank God that everything went smoothly. One thing I have read on VJ and that I believe is true is that it seems the CO has already decided if he or she would approve the visa even before the interview. As such, one of the things that made me nervous is that I did not front load my petition to USCIS and I read many posts about how front loading makes the interview much easier. I followed the VJ guideline for filing the petition, which did not advice that people going through tough embassies like Lagos should front load. Thankfully, front loading didn't seem to matter because my fiancé's interview was about ten minutes long, and he was approved.
He doesn't live in Lagos so he traveled to Lagos yesterday and slept over his friend's house in Victoria Island. He left the house at 4:30am and arrived at the embassy at 5am for his 7am appointment. He said he paid 150 naira to sit down on a chair while waiting for the embassy to open. Finally at around 6:30, everyone waiting was told to line up, security check was done, passport and passport pictures were checked and they were allowed to enter. Inside, he was asked to submit the affidavit of support, medical report, police report, DS 156 and DS 156k forms. He was given a number and he ended up waiting for three hours before he was called.
CO asked him the following questions:
Who petitioned for you? He answered
What does she do? She is in her last year in school
Is she very busy now that its her last year? No, she was much busier when she first started
How did she travel to the United States (guess she wanted to know how I gained LPR status and subsequently naturalized) he answered
Does she live in the US with her siblings? He answered
How many siblings does she have? He answered that I am the only girl, the CO commented that he is a lucky man.
Does she have Facebook? (This was an unexpected question because I used to have Facebook but deactivated my account after I submitted the petition. I guess she did some research before conducting the interview) my fiancé answered that we both deactivated our Facebook accounts because of olofofo
The CO laughed and asked what he meant by olofofo? He answered that we are private people and prefer it that way.
The CO gave a nod of approval and asked if he has more evidence of our communication. my fiancé handed her our bbm chat logs and phone record. my fiance asked if she would like to see pictures because he had over 150 pictures with him. she said its not necessary. he reviewed the bbm chat logs and phone record and said "you know what, your visa is approved"
She took my fiancé's passport and gave him a paper showing the address he would need to go to pick up his visa.
Good luck to everyone still in the process. I truly believe that so long as you do your best to have the best evidence and complete all necessary forms and reports correctly, the rest is left for God to handle and God won't disappoint :-)
