This is Mary writing - Roberto wants to submit a full review & we\'ll try to do that soon. I can say that Roberto found the process easy and he had no trouble. I was not with him in Juarez, he went through the process by himself. He does have some tips for people going through Juarez, but he had no problems.
One thing he did tell me was that people should dress nicely - there were people there who looked very casual or even dirty, and that does not help you with the officials. Also as many others have said, don\'t pay attention to the people who hang around near the consulate and tell you to go with them and they\'ll arrange your papers. Ignore them & don\'t go with them. Get in line early - he went early both for the medical and the interview, and there were people ahead of him even though he arrived well before the doors opened.
He stayed at the Hotel Conquistador and was happy with it. They were very inexpensive - I made the reservation and paid ahead on hotels.com so that we wouldn\'t pay a fee to transfer money for him to pay himself. That was convenient for us. It is close to the consulate and a little less expensive than the chain hotels that are better known in the US.
Roberto traveled to Juarez on the weekend, did his medical on Monday, and had his interview on Wednesday. We wanted to leave plenty of time for the medical so he wouldn\'t be rushed. He did his biometrics in Mexico City a week ahead of the interview, and there were no issues with the results being at the consulate on time for his interview.
He told me they hardly asked him anything at the interview. They wanted to know how we met, and they asked about his son from his prior marriage, and they asked about my 16 month old son. They actually didn\'t ask him anything about what language we speak together or any questions about my family. Roberto made a point of keeping calm and being sure not to appear nervous. He feels that helped him with the interview.
They told him at the end of the interview that his visa was approved. He had registered with the DHL office online. We had a hard time figuring out how to track the package - we both thought the embassy would give him a number, but instead it turned out that he had to go back and log in to the applicant service center website and go to the information page. For two days it said \"no information.\" Then around 2:00 his time on Friday, we saw a tracking number appear. He went right down to the DHL office and they gave him the packet. I actually watched on the DHL website and saw when he had picked it up. 
He went back to the hotel and we made flight arrangements for the next day, to come in through John F Kennedy International airport in New York. He arrived Saturday evening. The plane landed at 10:45, and he was cleared through customs in less than 45 minutes.
It went very smoothly both at Juarez and at JFK.
