We arrived at the US Embassy close to 6:30 am. After having my fiance's name checked off the list of interviews and going through security, we arrived inside the waiting room. We immediately went up to the window where a very pleasant woman started looking through our documents and giving things back. We presented the joint sponsor information, and she immediately said it wasn't enough. My heart sank. I started to point out some things to explain to her, and she remarked "this is not a debate." I was afraid to say anything else, but nicely asked her to continue looking at our co-sponsor's documents. She finally started highlighting things and making notes for the CO and said it was up to the CO to accept the information presented. She was really nice and pleasant despite the debate comment, and I was really happy she highlighted and marked relevant parts of the I-134 supporting documents.

Next, my fiance had his fingerprints taken. Then the agonizing wait began. We waited and waited and waited, all the while eavesdropping on other interviews. Many people were denied because they were not prepared or the information they provided didn't match the information in documents the petitioner provided.

We waited about 3.5 hours before my fiance's name was called. I went up to the window with him and the young woman asked each of us several questions: How did we meet for the first time? Why was I living in Haiti? Have I met his mother? What type of wedding will we have? Is it the first marriage for both of us? Do we have children? She then clipped a small yellow piece of paper to a photocopy of his passport and said to pay at the desk. We thanked her and she wished us good luck. We were so overjoyed.

All in all, it was a good experience. The CO we had was really pleasant and nice. I'm glad I was there. I'm glad we were prepared. I'm glad I "front loaded" our application. I'm so thankful for VJ and all of the advice and encouragement I received.
