My interview was scheduled for 9am this morning, we stayed overnight in London at Marble Arch and walked down to the embassy to see how long it would take - 10 mins.

This morning, I arrived at the embassy at 8am for my interview. There was a long queue in front of me and many, many people still had mobile phones... they all got sent off to store them. I reached the security point at 8.50am and went into the embassy. The embassy was busy to the point of manic!

Having been given my 'I' number at reception, I settled down to wait. Lots of 'N' numbers called, the first 'I' number was called at 9.10am At 9.25am my number was called and I went to the window to check in my documents. The English guy there was friendly and polite but it was clear to me that this is purely procedural. I began to relax as I realised that no one was expecting there to be a problem, I just had to have the right documents. The only document that was queried was the I-134, the guy asked if I had the original rather than a photocopy - I was surprised because my fiancé had fed-exed what I thought was the original - the guy decided it didn't matter but said the officer may query it. He took my passport and gave me a pink form for courier.

I went to sit back down and wait to be called for interview. I waited only 6 minutes before my name was called. The American officer at the interview window was extremely nice and friendly but gave nothing away whatever. He asked a number of questions but (unlike other reviews I've read here) wasn't fast about it. He listened intently to my answers, allowing me to talk for a minute, before asking the next question. After a little while, he started to type so I waited. At that point I stopped feeling nervous. Questions asked at this stage were:

So where did you guys meet?
When did you start dating?
Has he been married before?
Has he got children?
What are their names?
Where do they live?
What does his son do for a living?
Why did you guys decide to get married?
What do you love about him?
When do you plan to leave for the States?

After he stopped typing, he continued his questions:

Will you be living in TN?
When will you marry?
Are you having a ceremony?
Do you have savings?
What do you do for a living?

Writing the questions here makes it sound like an interrogation but it didn't feel that way at all, it felt quite leisurely and relaxed, he seemed genuinely interested in the answers. He typed some more then looked up and smiled and said 'so Linda, your visa has been approved and I hope you'll be very happy'. I just about cried, must have thanked him 6 times, he kept saying 'it's ok' lol.

I went off to pay the courier and walked out to glorious sunshine.

I can't fault the embassy staff - every single person who spoke to me was polite and friendly and it made such a difference. We've stressed over this for 9 months - it's great to be able to look forward to just getting on a plane
