Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance wrote this review:

I arrived at about 8:45am for my 9am appt. I asked a security guard what’s the procedure for visa interviews. He said just join the line and have my papers ready. So I dug into my accordion folder that was jam-packed with all of the stuff they asked me to bring to the interview. Thanks to my fiancée, she did an awesome job putting my folder together in a way so I’d be able to find everything I needed when I opened the folder. I took out my passport and appointment letter and proceeded in the line till I got to the check-in area. These people were checking the documents. He asked for my appointment letter and when he checked it, he pulled me from the line and asked for my DS forms. I pulled them out and gave them to him. He asked for my passport photos and I gave him 2 of them which he stapled to 2 of the forms.

He then handed me the forms and told me to keep these in hand because they will ask for them at the beginning of my interview. So after collecting my documents, I kept going through the security check. I walked into what seems like a courtyard. To my left, I could see 2 rows of chairs about 20 or more in each row. I went past them and showed the security guard my documents and asked him which way to go. He told me to go through a big door to a lady who was checking the letters. She gave me a little piece of yellow paper and told me to write my passport #, phone #, name, and address on it and to hold on to it.

After that she gave a little piece of white paper, A159 was written on it. She told me to go through the door in front of me and go to my right. When I went through the door, the waiting areas were full. I looked to my right and I saw over 50 people sitting in the “A” section where I was supposed to go. All of the seats were taken, so I had to stand for a long time with about 8 other people. I got in at about 9:10am, so I thought they would call my # soon. WRONG!!! I stood there from 9:10am to about 12:30pm. Hmm, it’s a good thing that I’m used to standing for long periods of time.

So finally after standing for over 3 hours, feeling tired, hungry, thirsty, and nervous, they finally called my #. I walked up to window 5; she was a female who looked kind of familiar. Maybe I saw her at the club I worked at before because 3 of the guys working at the Embassy, I also saw them at the club before and they recognized me. I didn’t engage in small talk with them though, I just nodded when they went by. So anyways, the lady at the window asked for my receipt of payment for the visa fee, my birth certificate, medical record, no-impediment, affidavit of support or any supporting documents, DS forms, police record, and she asked me to sign my police record.

So after I gave her all of the documents, she told me to sit and wait for my # to be called again. I took a seat and waited again for over an hour watching other applicants do their interview, I could tell when a few of them were approved through the 2-way system they were using.

#159! Finally, it’s my turn. I walked up to the window and my interviewer was a white young man looking like his mid to late 20s. He said hi and asked how I was doing. After sitting and waiting for over 4 hours, not eating or drinking anything, my throat was dry and I was hungry. He told me to hold my right hand up and swear to tell the truth to the best of my memory. I in turn said “to the best of my memory.” So he proceeded to ask me my name and my fiancée’s name, where she lives, how we met, and how long we’ve been together. He asked when was the last time I saw her, as well as how many times she came to visit. He asked if I’ve ever been to the US or if I’ve ever been to any other country.

He asked me when we got engaged and I told him Feb/2012. Then he asked when did we meet and I told him we first met in March/2011. Then when did she came to visit me and I told him April to May/2011and again in Sept of the same year. He tried to switch up the dates on me by asking “So you said you got engaged in March right?” I said no, we got engaged in Feb of this year. He said ok. He then asked me, why don’t you have a ring? Where are your rings? I told him we were checking for rings online and again when she was here in June, but we didn’t see any we liked so we would just wait till I get there to probably have some custom-made. He said ok.

Again he asked “So you said you met your fiancée in Feb right” I said no, we met in March/2011 and meet in person in April of the same year. He said ok and then, “So how did you two meet?” I told him the story of how we met. He asked “Does she ever send you money?” I said yes. He said “So why does she send you money? What does she pay you for?” The minute he said that, I said pay me?!? I said, no don’t get it wrong, she doesn’t pay me; she only sends money to me if we have business to take care of out here. He said “Ok, what kind of business?” I said business such as this. He said ok and then asked me if I have any pix of my fiancée as well as pix of us together. He asked me about where we would stay when she’s here and so on. He asked for phone call records. I showed him the phone records that my fiancée provided me which listed all of the times she called me. But we didn’t include my phone call records, so he asked why I didn’t have those records. Finally, he asked for my passport and told me my application has been approved and I should pay DHL on my way out and arrange for my passport pick up. AHH! I said thank you and asked which direction is the DHL office and he said on my way off the compound.

Are you ready for the BIG twist? So on my way out and almost to the DHL area, a female came up to me from the security check area at the exit and said are you “xxxxxx?” Were u at window 7?” I said yes and she said, they need you back inside. I said huh (in my mind, I’m thinking WTF), so I went back in and up to window 7. The guy said “Oh there’s one more thing I forgot to you ask you to do. Can you put your left thumb on the scanner please? BEEP! He said, ok you are good. Hehe…yo, I’m outta here. I finished around 2pm.
