I had my interview on September 11th and it was so simple! I was nervous for no reason at all
I arrived at 6:30am and I was the first one there. I stupidly forgot to bring a sweater and it was chilly out so I decided to go to the Tim Horton's around the corner to get a coffee. By the time I came back, around 6:45, there was a man and a couple in line. We waited until 7:30 on the nose, the guard came out and opened the door. DO NO BRING ANY BAGS! The first man in line had a small laptop sized briefcase and they said it was too big and refused to let him in. If you want to breeze in and out make sure you carry as little as possible. I had my paperwork in a plastic folder, a wristlet and a book to help pass the time. The guard let the couple and myself inside the doors where were were asked by a woman sitting on the left hand side to show our PASSPORT, INTERVIEW LETTER, and LOOMIS CONFIRMATION PAGE. She wrote my DHL reference number on a sticker and put it on the back of my passport. I was then told to go to through the metal dector and down the stairs to wait by the elevator. I sat as close to the elevator as possible and read my book until the guard came down to let us in the elevator. I went in and faced the back door and was 2nd to get my ticket C-2. I took my seat and waited to be called. They do not call the numbers in order so don't worry. When my ticket was called the very nice woman at the window asked for my PASSPORT and INTERVIEW LETTER first. She went through some of the particulars and asked if anything had changed. I had recently changed my last name to my husbands and was a bit worried what would happen. She said it wasn't an issue at all, she just used white out and corrected my forms. She then asked for the PHOTOCOPY OF MY PASSPORT because, again, I changed my name so I had to get a new passport. She then handed back my original documents and told me to wait until my name or ticket number was called. At 8:45 an we were told that the consulate was going to have a moment of silence at 8:46 to remember those lost in 9-11. The officers left their posts and came back around 9am. Around 9:10 I was called to window 8 where I was given a statement to read out loud. I was super nervous so I stumbled on the words a bit. I laughed and told the officer I swear I know how to read, she laughed. She asked me to scan my right hand only while she looked through my file quickly then turned to her computer and asked me to tell her about my husband. I told her that we met at university and continued to have a long distance relationship once we graduated, when he proposed and when we got married. She then asked what he did and then said congrats your visa's been approved! she handed me a sheet explaining when I can enter and some info about SSN and the removal of my conditions and I was out the door.
It was painless and everyone who worked there was very nice. As long as you're organized with your paper work and arrive early you won't have a problem.
