My interview was scheduled for 8am on Friday September the 7th 2013. I had requested the earliest time possible on this date and they obliged. I woke up at 5am and left my house at 6am after to travel from my home on North London to Bond Street Tube station which is a 5 minute walk from the embassy. On the way I got wen’t past Goulds pharmacy and checked in my phone and got some breakfast at the place next door. Then walked 100 yards down the road and joined a queue of about 25 people outside the embassy at 7:30am.
By 7:45am they started letting people in and I was taken through security 5 minutes later. They asked for my apointment letter, MRV receipt and Passport. Its unbelievable how many don’t read the informatuion given to them and got sent out because they didn’t have the correct documents and still had there phones on them. By 7:55 I had checked in where they ask for the apointment letter, MRV receipt and Passport once again. You then sit in a waiting area.
At 8:00am they began calling the numbers. I was I902 so the seconed I visa of the day. About 10 I numbers got called before I901, and then at 8:15am I was called to booth No.13. I901 was in the booth next to me and having a loud argument with the officer (He needed to return to the US within 4 days!). I had a British black lady who was in here 40s. She was very tired and yawning and didn’t speak to loudly so I had to listen clear. She asked for my apointment letter, MRV receipt and Passport. She then asked for my Police Certificate with a Photo Copy and my Long Form birth certificate with a Photo Copy. She then asked for my US Passport Photos followed by Elora’s I-134 with evidence. We had a letter from her employer, pay stubbs, letter from her bank and a W2 and she took it all. She took my fingerprints and then I was then given the pink slip which you need to fill out for delivery so make sure you bring a pen with you as there’s none lying around. It took 15 minutes.
At 8:30am I was sitting back down and waiting for my number to be called for my interview. The waiting area was filling up at this point but I only saw one other I Visa get called. I got a bottle of water from the snack shop for £1 so it seems everything is reasonable. They only take cash. I had a book with me but never read it as I wasn’t in that frame of mind.
At 8:45am my number was called and I wen’t to booth No.15. I901 had just finished by the time I got there. I had a white American Man in his mid 30’s. He wore glasses, was balding slightly and a little chubby. He made me say the Oath, and then took my fingerprints. He then got me to signed the DS-230 Part II. Then he asked the following questions;
Have you been married before?
Has she been married before?
So tell me your story?
Where did you meet?
When was this?
Were you with anybody else when you met?
What happend from there?
How many visits have you had?
He began to look through the origional photos from the I-129F petition
Tell me about her?
Why Marraige? Its a big step?
Does she have any children?
Do you have any children?
Have you met her family?
Where will you live?
The he said congratulations you have been approved. He didn’t ask for any additional evidence. I smiled and thanked him. He told me we are the best looking couple he has had (IN YOUR FACE EVERYBODY!) and that I had done well for myself . He told me where to pay for the deliery. I asked him if there was anything else and he said “Yeh, she’s always right” . I told him thankyou and he wished me luck.
I wen’t and paid for the delivery. They said they wouldn’t do the pre 8am delivery because of the Paralympics so I had to get before 10am. You can track it though. I walked out of the doors at 9am so it took an hour in total. Called my fiance to tell her the amazing news. It felt a fantastic sense of achievment, simular to when you pass an exam in school.
My relationship history is fairly simple, there’s no kids, no divorces, she earned enough to sponser me and we met in person not online so there was no reason to ever run into trouble. My advice is just to read everything on this forum and also check what they officially tell you. If you have done that there is nothing to worry about. Ask for an early time in your cover letter and you should get out quickly like me.
I just booked my flight. Move on December 10th and getting married December 14th. My visa Journey has only really just begun but today was a massive step forward. Good luck to everyone reading this. IT IS ALL WORTH IT and thankyou to everybody who helped me on the UK page especially Nich Nick.
