I had my interview at 9am. I left my stuff at Gould's so I have no idea when I actually got to the embassy, it was definitely before 8.30, but they let me in anyway (so much for "please don't arrive more than 30 mins early or you won't be allowed in"!)

I queued outside for maybe 10 minutes and then went through security. They do let you bring drinks in (I was wondering if they would), but you have to drink a bit in front of them.

I went inside and was given a ticket at the desk, then walked up the stairs into the waiting area. I was I907 and, as everyone says, they must have called 50 N numbers before I got called up.

After about 15 minutes I was called to window 1, from what I could tell, that was the only window they were using for I numbers. I saw the famous Chinese lady (although, judging by her lanyard, I think she's actually Malaysian). She does speak quietly and quickly, so you do need to listen carefully, but she's friendly enough. She gave me my chest xray from my medical and told me to keep it in my hand luggage when I fly. She asked me a few simple questions (when do I plan on travelling, have I been married before, has he, do either of us have children). She then asked for my passport, passport photos, my birth certificate and a copy, my police certificate and a copy, my I-134 and a letter from my fiancé's employer. This was the only evidence of finances I was asked for, although my fiancé earns well over the threshold, so I suppose she didn't need anything else. She took my fingerprints, gave me the pink slip for the courier and told me to sit and wait for my number to be called.

I really don't know how long I was sat down (if I could give one piece of advice, it would be to wear a watch!) but I guess it was about 45 minutes. I was really surprised to be called up so quickly and I think I must have looked a bit flustered when I got to window 16! I saw a nice American guy who made me feel very at ease. He asked me to take the oath and sign the bottom of my DS-156K.

He asked:

How we met (at the restaurant we worked at together last summer when I was in the US on a J-1)

Why I had chosen that restaurant to work at (my brother worked there)

Why my brothers are over there

Why I want to move to the US, rather than my fiancé move here

What I like about him

Whether the age gap between us is an issue

What my parents think of our relationship

What I want to do when I get over there

None of these were a problem, but he also asked what annoys me about my fiancé and what annoys him about me. That one really threw me, but I think I managed to come up with a reasonable answer! After typing for a few seconds he said "your visa is approved". The whole interview took about 5 minutes!

I wasn't asked for any evidence of our ongoing relationship, which kind of bugged me as I printed out 100 pages of WhatsApp messages the other day lol. I was still pleased I had them though, it's better to be safe than sorry, as they say.

One thing I would warn you guys about is that he did keep interrupting me. He would ask me a question and then, while I was in the middle of answering, ask me another one. I guess he was trying to catch me out and see if I got flustered. Obviously it didn't work!

I went and paid the courier and left. I was out by 10am!
