Had an 0800 appointment at London Embassy today. Met a fellow VJer in the line outside at 0730 and there were already 5 or so people ahead of us. Through security, into the building via side entrance, up to reception where they give you your I-Number (I was I-905).

For every one Immigrant number they called, they called about fifty nonimmigrant numbers! But eventually got up to Booth 1 where i had the famous (infamous?!) asian lady who is hard to understand! She took all my documents. I remembered that when I emailed the embassy to change my fiance's address a few weeks ago, they told me to change it on the forms on the day also. So the lady gave back some of my DS forms and asked me to make the changes and sign them. I only handed over the I-134 completed by my co-sponsor (fiance's dad). She asked if my fiance was a student and I said yes. I asked if she needed proof of that or his i-134 and she said no. She quickly looked at all the financial evidence i'd made my fiance's dad send me… and gave almost all of it back! She kept a letter from his bank confirming substantial savings, and two pay slips confirming his high salary. She made a comment about how much money he earned and told me to relax (i must have looked nervous!). You can see your file in front of her in a big pink folder, and she was holepunching and adding all these forms on top.

Sat down, read my book, waited maybe 45 minutes for my number to be called again. This time to booth 16 at the back, where it was a bit more private. A friendly American lady in her early 30's asked me to swear to tell the truth etc, and asked:

-how i met my fiance
- how i liked new orleans
- what he was studying
- where he wanted to do his residency
- what i wanted to do in the US and what i do now
- if my parents liked him
- if i'd met all his brothers and sister (he has lots, including stepsiblings).
- when we planned to get married

It was a very casual chat, and questions were very open ended and our conversation flowed well. She looked at the i-134 his dad had completed and joked about his answer to questions 11 - he had ticked i intend and written something like 'financial support available if needed but i do not expect to be making regular payments, or to be providing room & board. aware that kate has savings to get her through this period of unemployment'. she laughed at it, and said he's obviously forgotten how much wedding dresses cost!

She typed a bit, and said she was happy to approve my visa! i started to wipe away tears and she joked that i had to stop or she would start too! She wished me luck with everything and explained how POE would work, and reminded me not to open sealed enveloped although she said 'there's no exciting secrets in it" just the whole big file you see in front of you there!

Headed out to pay for courier delivery (there's no express delivery you can pay for, you just pay extra to have it delivered before a certain time - 8,10 or 12 i think).

And then back out into the London sunshine to a tearful mother who'd' been patiently waiting for me with all my belongings and my iphone so i could Skype my fiance straight away
