My fiance and I arrived at the consulate around 6am. There were not many people there yet. We asked one of the guards which line we should go in (which was the correct one!) and we then waited for 30 minutes or so when the consulate started to let people pass through security. The line moved very quickly and within 5 minutes, we had our lucky number: 203 and were sitting on the cushioned benches.
Our interview was scheduled at 6:45, and by 7:30 they had called us to the first window to hand in the forms DS156, DS156k, DS230, DS157, the police report, birth certificate, passport, cedula and banco popular receipts. They never asked me for a single piece of finanical support info (I had everything ready just in case, but was happy that it was not asked for). The man asked us a few questions to verify some of the info (both my fiance and my addresss and telephone numbers) and then told us to go pay the 80 dollars for the vids on the side windows and to wait until he called us back to give him the receipt. Within 10 minutes we were called back. We handed the man the receipt, sat back down, then continued to wait.
By 9 they had called us up so they could do my fiances fingerprinting which was very quick, and of course, we then we went to sit back down and waited. We ended up standing my the entrance door while waiting to be called in to the interview because sometimes when people would come into the consulate from security, we would get a rush of cool air from the other room. The fans were not enough in the waiting area. From reading so many reviews, I knew now that everything was done and that the next time we would be called up it would be for the actual interview. We waited and waited, but by this time I wasnt as nervous as I was in the morning. I was hungry and tired and ready to get it all over with.
Around 10 we finally were called to window 21 for the interview. We saw our number on the screen and went got so excited! The lady was american and very nice. She swore us in and then asked in spanish:
1- How did you guys meet? (we both answered)
2- When did we meet? (Fiance answered)
3- Asked fiancé: When was the last time I had visited him? (Fiance answered)
4- Asked fiancé if he had ever traveled to the US
5- Asked fiancé if anyone has ever requested a visa for him
5- Asked me when the first time I had gone to the DR was and why (exchange program in high school)
6- She clarified that i had not met my fiance on my first visit and then asked why I had gone back to live in the DR after she reviewed my passport)
7- She also asked how I learned spanish and if my fiance knew english
8- She asked to see photos (we showed them to her)
9- We expained that my mom has met my fiancé and she asked when (we explained that she has come twice)
10- She asked why we wanted to get married in the US instead of in the DR (Fiance explained)
Im pretty sure that was about it. They were very easy questions (of course we had nothing to hide!) and the lady was very nice and professional. The whole time she must have had the green slip on top of her papers, but I hadnt even noticed it until she started to tear off our half and said "Bueno, todo esta en orden. Asi k felicidades! Pueden pasar por domex a pagar" We gave eachother a quick kiss and ran off to pay domex and left the consulate! We were so excited and couldnt stop smiling!
