Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We had the appointment scheduled on a Thursday. We waited in line outside until it was 15 mins before the interview hour. We were greeted with airport security protocols, friendly security guards. Next we checked in at the desk and went upstairs to the waiting area. It took us probably about 20 minutes until an officer called our name. He greeted us and made us swear under oath. He proceeded by asking us questions about joint financial evidence. I gave him our joint bank account statements, phone bills, apartment lease, car title and insurance. After that he asked a few questions about our relationship, how did we meet, when did we first meet, who were at our weddings. He asked my husband about what I studied (I'm an F1), his job and study, what he intends to do with his career. I suggested to show him our photos but he said he didn't have to except just a few photos that show my mom has met my husband. Next we went over the procedural questions like have I ever committed a crime, been arrested, etc. The officer also double checked our info on the application, asking us our parents' names, our SSN, contact info. The whole interview was probably about 20 minutes. At the end he just said something generic like "you will be notified about the result in a month or two" but then half an hour later I got notified that the card is being produced for me. The next day my application status changed to case approved for forms I-485 and I-130. Two days after that or so, I got notified again this time the USCIS has handed the card to USPS. We were quite nervous but the whole process was pretty seamless. I have a lawyer for my case but he didn't go to our interview because I moved out of state. Oh after we left the interview I realized I forgot to give him my husband's paystubs for his new job and a few other documents so we went back in the building and filled out a "Additional evidence submission" form with the check-in desk lady and handed her our paperwork but I guess we really didn't need to because right after we left I got notified my case was approved.

Fairfax, VA office. Masks mandatory. Cannot be valved mask, if you use a half-face respirator you have to put a surgical mask underneath, placing it over the exhalation valve is not allowed. Can only enter 15 minutes prior to appointment time, though you have to stand in line anyway. 6 feet distance markers applied outside and inside building. The inside waiting room seating area on 2nd floor is also socially distanced. Employees are wearing masks. Line was short in the morning, security quick (have to take off belt, shoes, jackets, bags). At no point inside did we need to remove our masks.

Interview itself was quick and friendly. Same room as masked interviewer, plexiglass divider. From arrival to building to leaving it took about 1h30m.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Today we attended The Washington D.C. office (in Fairfax, VA) for my Adjustment of Status interview based on marriage.
With regards to COVID and social distancing: the check-in area and waiting rooms have been laid out for social distancing. The interview offices are small, so the interview officer is separated from you by plexiglass. Masks are required at all times within the building.

Our interview lasted 5 minutes.
The officer was courteous and direct. We sat down, handed over our passports and identification. Then I gave her a two page list of all the document copies I brought for her if she needed them. She reviewed my A.O.S. application and confirmed my details (D.O.B., full name, address), asked me if I had started working since applying for the A.O.S., and I gave her details about my new job. She then asked us about our wedding, and then she asked us how we met. My husband said something along the lines "through a friend, and we talked, etc". Once my husband finished his story, I turned to her and said.... "Actually, I chatted him up". The officer laughed, then asked me a couple of more questions what documents I WANTED TO GIVE HER(!!). I gave her 3 months of bank statements, a copy of my health insurance with my husband's name on it, a wedding certificate (which she returned). I offered to give her more documents, which she said were unnecessary. And that was it. She said that we should hear fairly soon, and that the approval letter will be sent before the green card.

When I got to the car 5 minutes after finishing the interview I found an email update from U.S.C.I.S. stating that a green card had been ordered for me.

We got very lucky I suppose. On the other hand, we have been in a relationship for 8 years and we have provided plenty of proof of co-habitating previously, rental agreements together before I moved to the US, they know our previous travel history to see each other, etc.We were fortunate that our immigration officer had studied our file before we met her, as it seemed to have given a good impression.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

My US Citizen husband and I went to the Fairfax (Washington DC) office yesterday for our AOS interview. We were let into the building exactly 15 minutes before our interview time, got through security and made our way up the elevator to the 2nd floor. There we waited for about 20-30 minutes in a bright but sparsely decorated waiting room, which had chairs spaced 6 feet apart for social distancing - but there were a few pairs of chairs close together for couples like us!
A lady called my name, and we were asked to follow her to her office for the interview. After making an oath to tell the truth, the first thing we did was go through the AOS application form and confirm/update information. She made note of our address change and my current employment, and then I was asked to sign to make sure I approved all the changes. She also went over many of the Yes/No questions in the form, and once that was done, she asked if we had further documentation we wanted to present. My husband had an updated Affidavit of Support based on his employment (which changed last year) with lots of financial evidence, and we also presented our evidence for the relationship, including plenty of joint statements and pictures. She asked me how we had met, so I briefly told her the whole timeline, from how we met until the time my husband proposed. She also asked briefly about our wedding, but didn't press for details. Overall I was pleasantly surprised at how few questions we got. The whole thing took no more than 15 or 20 minutes and then we were done! She told us that we would be informed in the mail if more documentation was required, although she doubted it, and then escorted us back to the exit.
At the end of the work day, when we checked the case status online, it had already changed to 'new card being produced'!
