Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Had our AOS interview today, June 6, 2006. Arrived about 5 minutes late -- construction! -- with a box of evidence in hand. We waited about an hour to be called... There were about 30 others in the waiting area, which is not the same area where we sat for EAD processing. Our interview was a snap. The interviewer had our entire package (I-129F, I-130, i-485, etc.) in front of her and referred to it to verify answers to basic questions about when we were married, where we were born, etc. She asked how we met and where were our kids. The only evidence we were asked to produce was our drivers licenses, original marriage license, Eve's passport with her K-3 and I-94 docs, and birth certificates for our kids.

To the extent you think it matters, my wife is Canadian; we've been married for 10 years; and we are white, English-speaking, and upper middle class. We didn't use a lawyer. We arrived with our paperwork well-organized. The interview lasted 10 minutes; the interviewer to... read complete review

Piece of cake! Didn't submit a new vaccination worksheet (just submitted the one from the Vancouver medical); wasn't asked for W2's; didn't want to see scrapbooks/photo albums, only had to produce joint financial documents. We were in and out in 5 minutes!

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

As the first facility built specifically for the USCIS, the Seattle Office certainly doesn't seem to be very efficient.
I first went in there for Biometrics, in December 2005. All the officers and security guards were extremely friendly and competent, but the wait times were horrendous. I had to wait for 2 full hours before having my fingerprints taken.
My second trip there was in March 2006, for my AOS interview. Once again, the wait time was just a tad much. We had a 1 PM appointment, and we were only called in by an immigration officer at 1:35.
When I was there in March, there was a huge line of people waiting to go through security outside of the building -- once again, not very efficient.

Very smooth AOS with Seattle, filing paperwork to physical Greencard in my hands took around eight months total - not a bad timeline at all. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and professional, very smooth interview when the time came.
