Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Our officer was very polite, and didn't seem particularly invasive. We simply stated the facts regarding our marriage, how we met, and where we live. We also attended our interview with a wedding album, twenty-five photos chronicling from the night we met until just before the interview. He mentioned that he was actually quite relieved that we had submitted so much bona fide evidence; apparently, many couples don't seem to submit enough. The only disappointment, we discovered, was that our case was still backlogged with the FBI's background checks, otherwise, we might've been approved on the spot. Nevertheless, we were quite happy with our interview in the San Francisco office.

Appt. was at 10am. We got to the reception area on the 2nd floor of 630 Sansome about 5 minutes 'til 10am - puppy troubles in the morning (wouldn't 'potty'), unusual traffic to the interview and a line outside the building all contributed to our almost being a bit late.
We were called in at around 10:45am.

Our adjudicating officer left the room for a moment to make copies of our IDs (CA drivers' licenses) and our attorney turned to us and said, "Don't be intimidated by her. Just answer her questions. She has a reputation for being a pain in the butt." "Great," we thought...

When she returned, she actually turned to my husband, the US Citizen, and started asking him questions first. She actually ended up questioning him more than she did me... we both think it was because his family -- younger brother and father -- has a bit of a police record (minor incidents, mostly involving his younger brother). She asked where his parents were, whether he had 2 ... read complete review

Everything went smoothly, the IO was very jovial, and the whole interview took no longer than 15 minutes.

We'd arrived 45 minutes early and parked at the Portsmouth Square Parking Garage, which is two blocks away from the USCIS office (it has decent rates -- $5 for two hours).

The interview itself took approximately half an hour, most of which was spent chatting about our relationship (how we met, when we met, who met who first, where did we meet, how was the wedding, where was the wedding, honeymoon, etc.). Touched briefly on employment.

Our interviewer was a nice guy with an offbeat sense of humour. He hardly looked at our documents (though he took them nevertheless); instead, he focused on listening to our story. He was glad to see that we have strong ties to our families. Before he stamped my AOS application with "APPROVED!", he gave my husband one last chance to get rid of me.

"She's a keeper" was his reply.
