Review Topic: Naturalization

Hubby's Citizenship Interview was at 8am and they called him in at about 8:20. It lasted less than 15 min. He said the CO was a nice older lady. After swearing him in, she asked him for four forms of ID: Social Security card, Passport, Driver's License and Green Card. Then she asked him six questions:

1.What is the "rule of law"?
2.How old do citizens have to be to vote for President?
3.Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?
4.What ocean is on the West Coast of the United States?
5.Why does the flag have 13 stripes?
6.What is the name of the national anthem?

Of course, he answered all the questions correctly. Then she asked him to read the sentence, "How many US Senators do we have?" and asked him to write, "We have one hundred Senators."

After that she went over his application. At that point, hubby gave her the page we had corrected (we had forgotten a temporary address he was at when he worked in Flo... read complete review

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Just got back from my interview. It was... interesting.

We showed up about 30 minutes early to the building in Fresno. My husband, daughter, and I went through the medical detectors and then were escorted up to the 3rd floor. We put our appointment letters in a box and then waited in an empty waiting room until 10:30. At 10:30 my name was called, and we all went up to the door. The IO took everyone's ID and then told my husband and daughter to continue waiting in the waiting room, while I followed him to his office.

He swore me in, and then asked me some questions:

What is your name?
What is your address?
What is your birthday?
What is your phone number?
Why did you come to the U.S.?
Did your J-1 visa have a 2 year residency requirement?
How long have you lived with your husband?
Who else lives with you?

Then he asked me all the questions on the I-485. He asked if I had ... read complete review

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

I was extremely nervous going to our AOS interview but I knew we have a bona fide marriage so everything would be fine. We arrived 15 minutes before our appointment time which was as 2pm. They called us back within 5 minutes. They sat us in a office, the IO was very pleasant. He asked Gavin questions and from my briefing with our immigration advisor I stayed quiet waiting for him to ask me something. He asked Gavin the basics about name, birth date, address etc. Then he got up and asked me to follow him. I was so freaked out! He sat me in a chair down the hall, and asked me to wait saying it wouldn't be long. He went back to ask Gavin questions, mainly about our co sponsor, which happened to be my ex husband, about 5 minutes later he came back and got me. I sat down and the one and only question he asked me was what day our trash gets picked up..I answered, correctly of course (he'd asked Gavin during his questioning)..Then he said well everything looks good, you've been approved ... read complete review

Remember that the case officer has already reviwed your package. When you enter the U.S. they immigration officer takes the brown package that has all your information, all the documents that the officer had when you went to your interview in your home country so they all are looking at the same things. The better you have documented everything at the first step the easier it is.

We were approved. It only took about 5 minutes. That was kind of shocking given the 7 or 8 hour ordeal in Ciudad Juarez. It almost seemed like we spent more time in the metal detector. The questions were, what's your phone number, do you have a copy of your last pay stub, where do you live, have you been to jail ever, did you cross the border illegally. Then they person tore out the I-94 and told us the green card would come in the mail. The only cost was $3 for parking across the street.

So basically, if your immigrant spouse hasn't been arrested since entering the US, never crossed illegally into the US, and one of you is employed currently, and the marriage is real, then you will get the green card.
