Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Ok, so after being put in additional processing for 22 weeks and having to cancel my initial wedding, then having to wait an extra 6 weeks to get my EAD because of additional checks, then receiving an RFE for changing my name (took my wife's name)....I finally was invited to my interview today at the Dallas office.

I have to say, it was a REALLY good experience. After the above mentioned issues, I was expecting yet more frustration but it was the simplest part of the process to date. Here's how it went.

We got to the office about 30mins before our 9.30am time slot. We were met by some very friendly security guys who were laughing and joking with us. I had told my wife to leave any electronic devices in the car (you have to at the embassy) but it became apparent that you're actually allowed to take them in with you. We gave the security officers our appointment letter and they directed us to the second floor.

We went to the second floor and t... read complete review

My wife and I had our AOS interview the other day. We go in, go through security, and to the lobby upstairs. There is a receptionist that you give your interview letter to and they give you a restaurant coaster buzzer. The lobby is nice with TVs and bench seating. The guards were funny. I made a comment about the security being like the airport. They said yeah but we're more friendly. The receiptionist smiled and was nice. The interviewing officers seemed to generally have a friendly disposition. Some were openly smiling, others were more neutral.

Our officer came out, and took us back to his office. We were sworn in together. The basic flow seems to be:
1. house keeping - collect IDs, copies, birth certificates, etc.
2. go over 129F (when did you marry, when divorced)
3. evidence of a relationship (photos, ...)
4. 485 yes/no questions
5. wrap up

I was married before and had sponsered them which will draw their... read complete review

Interview was about 45 minutes later than scheduled. The interviewing office was very nice and polite and we felt fairly comfortable during the interview. He asked us if we had any additional information we wanted to submit such as pictures, documents. When the interview was completed he stated that he did not see anything that he thought would prevent approval, but that they would do an additional review of our file and we should receive a letter of notification within two weeks with a decision or additional instructions

Had a 1pm appointment. Arrived at 12:55. Was called in at 1:10pm

Very friendly officer, reviewed our IDs, asked me the usual yes/no questions congratulated me and said that I was now a LPR of the USA.

Didn't ask to see any proof of our relationship etc.

All in all a very good experience.

Both of us were very nervous going into the appointment. I took all the documentation they asked for plus copies of what we already submitted. We waited about an hour and half after our appointment time. Eat and drink before you go to your appointment because they do not allow food or drink in the waiting area.
When we were finally seen, my husband was very nervous and didn't answer the questions very well. I told the officer that husband was nervous so the officer was kind enough to try to relax him by asking us some easier questions and joking around with us. We would have been approved on the spot but didn't have copies of my W2 and all of the certified letters of dispositions from my husband's various tickets. Besides the long wait which we expected it was a very good experience and I hope everyone else's process goes as smoothly.
