Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Easy and straightforward interview. Arrived at the office 15 minute prior to interview start and was called exactly on time. Spouse and I were interviewed together. Agent asked us to verify our individual info (name, DOB, employment, parents names). We were asked how we met, when did we first consider ourselves to be in a relationship, when/where we met each other's families, what they thought of the relationship, when we moved in together, how it was going, and when we decided to get married and who proposed. No curveball questions and nothing about our day-to-day lives really. Agent was very conversational and friendly, didn't feel like an interview at all. At the end of the interview he congratulated us and said that our case has been approved, and to set a reminder to file a I-751 before the 2Y mark. Interview took approx 1hr15, though there was some computer system issues that slowed us down (e.g., showed our parent's information as blank, address after moving wasn't updated).

We had an extremely positive experience with our officer. He explained that there are no questions about our marriage and that the fact that we waited all of two and half years just to get the interview had to do with backlog and not an issue with our case. He was direct about the fact that it would only be a few more days before we heard back. He asked us to show our debit cards from shared bank accounts and he looked at our joint credit cards. Our lawyer was shocked at how nice he was and told us that this friendliness and openness was the exception and not the rule. We are still glad we got lawyers given the current climate and we continue to wait for approval but I had such a positive experience that I had to share it in case anyone is worried. We are also a same sex couple, two women of color and we had a really super positive experience in that interview today. Will say more if my wife's green card is approved without issue.

Appt was at 9:45 AM at Chicago FO, there weren't many people ahead of us, maybe like 3-4 people were called until it was our turn, I'd say we waited like 10-15 minutes, which is much faster than I expected. The interviewer was a nice young lady, glad we didn't get a grumpy one. We were sworn in and asked to produce our IDs and passports (I had both and my wife only had her foreign passport, interviewer said that was OK), the interview notice, and the certified marriage certificate (which we were given back.) We also mentioned that we got an updated medical since the overseas was missing some vaccines so the sealed envelope was opened and scanned in. Those were the only documents we had to provide physically, the rest was uploaded online (of course, we still brought physical copies to the interview just in case).

The interviewer said that since we already did a K1 interview we won't have to go through bona-fide marriage evidence stuff, and just asked us how and when we me... read complete review

Very friendly officer and the whole process was very smooth. The conversation was natural and the officer asked us about how we met, where do we live and all simple questions that a couple should be able to answer. No stress at all.
