Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We had our AOS interview in Chicago today.

My wife is the US citizen and I'm the beneficiary.

It was scheduled for 11:30am. We got there at 10:30 am,
cleared security, went up to 2nd floor and submitted our interview appointment letter.
The lady at the counter gave us a buzzer and we then waited until 12:20pm for our turn.

Our IO was a male officer who took us to his office, introduced himself and made us take oath to
tell the truth.

He then said "you must be __ and you must be __". He then asked for our drivers license, passports
and social security cards (he said "if you have them"). He noted our new address on our original
application packet we had submitted.

He then went over a checklist of Yes/No questions for me such as "are you affiliated with a terrorist organization" etc etc (no to all) and in the end made us both sign the document.

He then asked my ... read complete review

After a lengthy process of missing a letter for interview and being sent to DOJ for removal proceedings this interview went rather well. After a 15 minute wait with paperwork in my computer bag and lawyer by my side, there were very few questions. She just looked perplexed as to why we didn't receive our mail, especially when she handed to us the returned mail.

She also liked that the paperwork was in order, was impressed with the bank accounts and credit cards (photocopies of both cards with different names but same account numbers) and the latest pictures we handed her.

After about 10 minutes, my lawyer and her Bee-Essed for about a few minutes and it was done. No power trips, no drama.

The interview was easy. We completed all forms by the book, so we had nothing to hide when we went in for the interview.

The officer asked us how we met, then chatted about our situation.
My wife is bilingual in Spanish, and English, but if your spouse isn't fluent, you will need to bring a translator.

Anyhow, after we chatted, the officer went into our story a little bit, looked through our photos, asked 12 basic questions (i.e., have you ever committed any crimes? Have you ever been arrested? Have you ever transported money illegally?). Once the questioning was done, the officer stamped my wife's AOS application, and confirmed that she would get her green card.

My wife had actually purchased a ticket to visit her family in Nicaragua the day after our scheduled green card interview. So, the officer completd the advanced parole application for us in his office, and had us get the stamp downstairs at the lobby.

We arrived at 101 W Congress Parkway at around 7:45 AM for a 9:00 AM interview appointment. Screened through security, and up the escalators to the receptionist on the second floor, who took our interview letter and gave us a beeper/pager with a unique # and kept and wrote the same # on the interview letter. We sat down in a room that wasn't so full of people but did have the capacity to hold about 100 interviewees. At 8:08 AM, our pager buzzed and as we stood up to head for the door which led to the adjudicator's offices, the IO officer walked out with a sheet of paper in our hands and confirmed my husband's last name. Then instead of going through that door, she walked us toward the back, which was the "restricted entrance/exit" marked for personnel only. She led us both into her office and had us both swear an oath to tell the truth with our right hands raised before we sat down. Then we sat down and she immediately asked for our gov issued IDs and passports and my husband's I-94. W... read complete review

The interview was fast and simple we did the swearing in with the whole do you swear to tell the truth the whole truth. "Yes" and we showed documents that we are married and they took photos of us then asked were we met and how long we are married for and they said your application has no inconsistency so the IO said "you will have the GC in 1 week so look out for the mail". Have a nice day. Easy in and easy out. On the B2 visa the lady said as long as the country is honorary with the us Any One can file for a AOS on a B2 visa any other state not noticed by United States will need a marriage visa. "But you are fine"
