I had my adjustment of status interview today at the Chicago office. I am applying for a green card through my husband. Our immigration officer was very abrupt and came across quite rude! She even patronised us on more than one occasion. We were told we did not provide enough evidence of bona fide marriage even though I submitted the following with original application:
- photos from civil ceremony
- bank statements with proof of same address
- whatsapp conversations
- proof of social media interaction
- photographs proving timeline of relationship
She asked to see a lease agreement with both of our names on it but we did not have one so we were honest with her. She then proceeded to say that it was my fault for being unprepared at the interview & I should have done my research in terms what evidence to bring to prove validity of the marriage.

Our interview was at 9 AM, we got there around 8:30 AM or so and was asked to wait after checking in. Our interviewer was a bespectacled lady, probably in her 40's or 50's. She was sweet and after calling us into her office asked us to swear the oath. Once that was over, she asked a little bit of how we met and looked at our wedding pictures. She loved our pictures and asked my wife about her wedding dress. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience and I got my green card exactly a week later.

My wife completed (and passed) her citizenship interview today at the Chicago office. We arrived about 15 minutes early. There was no line at the security, so we went through pretty quickly. (Curiously, my wife’s jacket fell out of its tray going through the x-ray machine; she didn’t notice till we were at the “dressing table†getting our things together. The security screener asked as what was wrong, and we told her. She said, “Stay there,†and got it out of the machine for us.) We followed the signs up to the third floor, and my wife checked in with her interview letter. We were given a number and told to sit in the waiting area.
There’s no monitor saying what number is being called (like in the BMV). In Chicago, there is “Door 1†and “Door 2†with a large waiting room in-between. An officer comes out and calls out a random number (seriously, there was no apparent order to the numbers being called). T... read complete review

Everything went very smoothly. We arrived prepared to answer a bunch of personal questions but not many were asked. Our officer was friendly and made us feel comfortable (of course, I still was sweating though). The one thing I was not prepared for was more evidence. The appointment letter does ask for us to bring as much Bona Fide proof as possible but I had sent a bunch with our original application and just brought that with me thinking they couldn't possibly want another full album...turns out they would like that. She asked/ recommended that on our next visit we bring more evidence of our marriage and relationship including any older pictures. birthday cards, letters, etc. not included in the first package. It could be from the start of our relationship to current time. Since my husband and I have been married for less than two years, we will have to return in two years to remove the conditional status of his permanent residency. We had our AOS interview (adjusting from K1) yesterday morning at 8 am. We arrived at 7:30, and it took about 10-15 minutes to go through security and check-in. We got called in from the waiting area about 5 minutes after our scheduled time. The officer was strictly business and very difficult to read. Not at all mean, but not warm. He wasn't unfriendly, but I went in fairly relaxed and ended up being tense the whole time we were in there.
We were in his office for 45 minutes. He asked us questions about how we met, and about my trips to visit him in Turkey. Very detailed questions....why were you going there, how many days did you stay, etc. Also asked about meeting each other's families, lots of questions about our weddings, etc. He also asked all the questions from the I-485 form regarding whether my husband has ever committed any crimes or intends to in the future, and asked many additional questions about his military service.
