We decided that I would not accompany Liam to the consulate, as I had a strange suspicion that if he went alone, he would fare better.
His appointment was at 11:30. He was back at our hotel at 12:10.
Liam said the only thing the officer requested was the Affidavit of Support. (We had originals of everything we had submitted with the I129F, and all sorts of supporting documentation).
I don't know that the process could have gone any smoother.
We were impressed.

Kinda weird experience. Got through all the usual security checks (felt like I was boarding a plane!) - and there were loads more people there than i had anticipated. Took a number and sat down. I got a little concerned because I had a ticket in the "immigrant visa" queue, but half my paperwork said "non-immigrant visa". I made two trips back to the lady issuing the tickets to confirm this was correct, and both times she smiled and said yes it was ok. So I trusted her 
Waited for about an hour and ten minutes before I was called for the first stage. Just gave my documents over and that was fairly formal. Was then told to sit down and wait for the interview itself. I was given a form to fill out for the courier service at the end.
It seemed (according to the screen) there were about 55 people in front of my in the queue. Not entirely sure how it works, but barely two minutes later, I was called. I was chatting to a guy next to me and we... read complete review

How painless could it possibly have been? We realized the night before the interview at about 11pm that we had not yet paid the fee at barclay's like you're supposed to and started panicking, since the interview was at nine AM the next morning...when the banks opened...
Getting into London, we discovered that Barclay's now opens at 8:30, and so we were in the consulate by nine. Walked in, took our number (007, Bond...James Bond) and sat for a while. We were called to the window to present information, which I had far more of than they actually needed! We sat down again and waited, and about ten minutes later Russ was called for te interview. The chap at the window was very VERY nice, and we were approved out in about another fifteen minutes!
Getting through the POE at JFK was easy as pie, since it was two AM and there was no one else there. The work authorization was stamped into his passport and all's good now...roll on February 18th!

Started out rather bumpy, they requested more info. Visa would be issued upon receipt of that info. However the courier took there time delievering it to the London Embassy, took them 2 weeks to FINALLY issue the Visa. But overall not a bad experience.

I cant believe how painfree it was.
We (hubby and me) got there well early at 8:30am-ish and after a little wait we were let into the embassy where I was given the number 006 and told to take a seat and wait.
After a wait of about 10 mins I was called to window number 1 and a really nice woman (who I couldnt understand) took the pics and visa payment slips and although she was asking for other stuff I didnt know what she was saying so I just handed stuff over in the order that I thought she wanted.
She then gave me the courier slip and told us to sit back down.
No sooner had I sat down when I was called back to window 1 as she had forgoten to give me my xray (that had been sent over to the embassy from the Doctors in Knightsbridge).
Anyway we sat back down and after 10 mins or so we were called to window 13 where some right nice friendly american bloke was waiting for us.
