My interview was for 10.30am. I joined the queue outside the embassy at 9.45am and i'm glad i did. It was bitterly cold, and lots of people waiting to get in, so it took a good hour before i made it to the front of the line, through security check, and into the building to defrost. Once into the embassy, you get given a number, and then you simply wait in room to be called. Was called up twice, once to provide the documentation, i.e passport, support of evidence etc and to pay the visa fee, the second time i was called was for my interview.. was asked basic questions about the relationship and our plans, and then i was told i was approved! Was instructed to pay the courier for my passport to be delivered and go home. Inside the embassy I was only waiting for hour an half for the whole process to be completed. None of the extra evidence such as phone bills, pictures etc were asked for, but i definitely felt good for taking them in case they had any doubts. Worst part of the day was wait... read complete review

Stayed in a little hotel on the other side of Oxford street (Edward Lear Hotel) I walked the root the day before it took 5 mins, My interview was at 10am so I woke up at 6:30!!! tried to watch some TV tp calm myself down! left at 9:20 after calling my fiancee so she could wish me good luck! I left my bag and Mobile phone at the hotel reception ( Your not supposed to take any electrical devices ) when I got to the the embassy there was already a huge queue got to a woman who was sorting people into different lines I think they were 9:30, 10:00, 10:30 etc. appointment lines!
after a long wait (over an hour.. not sure no watch! I usually use my phone!) I got to the front of the line and went through security and round the building to the entrance, I went to the front desk and showed the lady my letter she directed me up the steps to the main waiting area where I got a ticket I was waiting only 5 minutes before being called up to one of the windows!
I was asked for my police... read complete review

My interview was scheduled for 8am (!) and I wanted to get there in plenty of time, because I was hoping that 8 o'clock would be the earliest interview 'slot' (looks like I was right), and that the sooner I got there, the less queueing would be involved both inside and outside the building. I left the house at 7am, was on a bus by 7:05, and getting off the bus (rather bleary-eyed - not much sleep last night!) on Park Lane at 7:18.... then went to get some cash out (all I had on me was the $100 visa fee and the money for the courier - I wanted snack-buying money for the long wait ahead!), and after a quick trip to Starbucks to get a latte & a croissant to eat in the queue, I got to the Embassy by about 7:30.
I followed some people round the edges of the security fences etc, but it turned out I was on the wrong side of the building (the Upper Brook Street side, closest to Oxford Street - although I'm sure it wouldn't have taken long for the queue to start stretchin... read complete review

Fairly clear instructions, but due to renovations, signage rather poor. Leave your electronics in the hotel! Were called up to window 14 within 5 minutes of arriving. First interview (for document checking) went fast, paid $100 at window 12, no 'pay in' slip needed. Waited an hour for Second interview at window 16. As the American citizen I was asked to sit down so my fiance could answer what turned out to be three questions: where did you meet? what does your fiancee do for a living? What will you do for work in the US?. Approved! All parties very nice, friendly and helpful.

Arrived around 10AM, interview time was 10:30AM. Was a queue when I arrived. Waited outside in the cold for almost 3 hours - apparantly there was a power cut in the morning and also 80 scouts and any US citizens renewing their passports had to go into the Embassy before any of the applicants, which was really frustrated -- every time their line filled up, they were just let straight in. I moved in the queue about 6ft in 3 hours. And I don't know if that was because people were being let in at the front or just because people in the queue were just bunching up because of the cold.
However, once I got inside it was pretty painless. Went to the first window after about 10mins sitting & waiting. Spoke to a guy who asked for the ticket I had been given, birth certificate and police certificate. Took fingerprints & asked me to goto window 12 to pay the visa processing fee. He gave me my X-rays when I got back and also the courier fee form and asked me to fill this in whilst wa... read complete review
