Our interview was today, 8:00am. Yesterday they implemented a TOTAL ban on all electronic devices. And by ALL, I mean, not even an electronic CAR KEY.

We never got any notice, phone call, nothing. We left our mobiles behind, as instructed. But we had no idea that we would have our car key held for ransom. And not by the embassy. They won't hold ANYTHING anymore.

Some a$$hat brought his mobile phone, then tried to hide it in the bushes for later retrieval, and we had the pleasure of watching the Metropolitan Police thumb-cuff him while they searched through the bushes for whatever he had planted there. (It was actually pretty cool, seeing a grown man brought to his knees just by having his arm twisted behind his back and his thumb yanked up toward his shoulders.)

Yes, the chemist a couple blocks away is quite enterprising. They charge £10 to hold your mobile phone and car keys for you (will not hold any other valuables). They had a steady st... read complete review

As most people have commented, the actual interview itself is very brief and a bit of an anticlimax after months of filling out forms and gathering evidence. The most difficult thing about the interview day is the hours of waiting about, listening to numbers being called.

It seems as though they have taken away the option of storing mobile phones etc in the security hut outside the embassy. I had a call from them three days before the interview, asking that I do not bring any electronic items or I would be turned away. Next to the queue outside there were signs saying electronic items could be stored in either a railway station locker or at Gould's, the pharmacist which is not far from the embassy. The woman in front of me in the security hut had her earphones taken away and thrown out, so it appears they are being quite strict about this! They told her that they used to store items but unfortunately couldn't anymore.

Once I got through security there was... read complete review

I am the USC, I went with my SO and was present for the entire process, just showed my passport along with all the embassy appointment papers and they let me in with no problems. The actual interview/process was about 10 minutes max, with a few basic question, the rest was just waiting for them to call your number. After the second part of the interview they said the petition was approved upon results of the fingerprint check(?)and we got the visa 3 days later via courier.

Also, since I was in the UK (and had been for months before the I-129 approval)my Aff. Of Support was not notarized...I was nervous about this (as I would have prefered that everything was COMPLETE)but I was able to sign the Aff. of Support in front of the Consular (as it states you can/should do in the instructions, if you are not in the US) and there were no problems with this at all. This saved us a load of money as notaries in the UK are very expensive! So if anyone else out there is worried about ... read complete review

What can I say? It was as easy as the good folk on here say it is.
Interview was at 8am. I got there for 7.40am. It was all over by 10am.
Was only asked for the usual documents. Birth Certificate, Police Report, etc.
I'm taking my son who has a different name but I was never married to his father. Had relevant documents from the HCMS Family Division stating I have sole parental responibility. Wasn't asked for any documents in relation to this. Swore on Oath. Paid the fee and that was that.
All in all a pain-free experience.

A pretty smooth experience, although the waiting times certainly do test your patience. Arrived outside embassy at 9.20am for 9.30am appointment (there were people there trying to get in for 11am interviews and they were being told to come back at 10).

By the time I got into the embassy it was 9.40am. The guy on the door asked me for some odd form with a photo on it, I told him I didn't have a clue what he was on about. Turns out that is needed for non-immigrant visas so I was OK.

I guess I was waiting about 40 minutes to be called up to the first window. Gave affidavit, birth certificate, police certificate and 2 x photos. Was given my X-Rays and told to pack them in my suitcase when I go to the US. Went to pay the $131, returned to the window and was told to take a seat.

Probably another 40 minutes later I was called around for the interview with the US consular official. Had to raise my hand and swear the oath etc. Straightforward questio... read complete review
