Interview appointment July 29 at 9:00 am.
I’m the USC and went to London with my fiancé. There was no problem with me being allowed to go inside the embassy with him by showing my passport. We arrived outside the embassy at 8:20 and found it different than described by previous posters. There was one long line of maybe 40 people. They were not separating by appointment times. It was first in line, first in the door. A woman was going down the line reminding people no phones, ipods, keys, etc are allowed inside. She was passing out bags for belts and watches to ride through the security machine. Security is a glass enclosure outdoors near the line with airport type screening. She told me I could just put my watch inside my purse for the screening rather than the plastic bag. You can put watches and belts on once it goes through the machine. We also noticed cigarette lighters in bags going through the x-ray, so they are not banned. After security, you’re inside the fen... read complete review

My appointment was at 9:30. Arrived at 9 and was allowed to wait in line. A guy turned up shortly after me with an appointment for 10 and was told to wait for a bit, so don't get there too early. Also when they say no electronics including mobiles, they really do mean it. Several people were sent away to store their phones nearby. There is a place 2 minutes away to store them. I had a couple of water bottles in my bag, I had to take a drink out of each one in front of them.
Once inside I settled down with my book. It is very advisable to take a book or something like that. There were a few papers flying around. As soon as someone was called up and a paper was left it was snatched up almost instantly. I waited about an hour before being called to the first window. That guy checked my forms were all there and put everything in a wallet. I also had to pay the fee at that point. Then I was sent back into the waiting room. Had a fake out when the person with the number below... read complete review

Aside from the waiting around for HOURS and finding it hard to hear what people were saying to me through the thick glass at the booths the interview process itself was simple and straight-forward and much as I expected it to be based on other people's accounts. I would caution people to allow a lot of time if they have to make firm travel arrangements as I arrived at the embassy and was waiting from 08:40 for a 09:00 appointment time and didn't get out of there until 12:30!!! I wasn't asked for any additional proof of our relationship but I would still suggest you take it with you just in case. You apparently cannot take ordinary house keys in with you either now, so I left these with my phone at the passport photo place at 449 Oxford Street.

I arrived outside the Embassy at around 9am (appointment time was 9.30am), having nipped to Gould's pharmacy just up N Audley road to get US style photos (2 for £5). After a 20 minute wait in the rain, I got to the front of the queue and was told the appointment letter I had with Packet 4 was incorrect. The guy checked all my papers, eventually went off and spoke to someone else and came back to tell me my appointment letter was fine, telling me "I've never seen this kind of letter before." Let that be a heads up to everyone else.
You can't take phones, usb memory sticks or anything with batteries in to the Embassy, as I was kindly informed by the policeman outside. Your wallet, spare change and belt etc will be placed into a plastic bag before you go through the metal detector to get in.
Once inside, I got a ticket from the front desk and went up in to the main hall. I'd estimate there were around 100-150 people sat waiting, watching the plasma screens f... read complete review
