I had my interview time for 8 am 6th March 2009
I arrived at the embassy at 7.30 am after leaving my phone and electronic car keys at Gould Pharmacy down the road from the Embassy
I went to the line outside handed over my interview letter and passport and then went through security where they scanned all items that I was bringing in, from there you walk around the outside to the steps to the waiting room.
I was sitting there at 7.20 at 8 the windown opened and it they stated calling the numbers out, I was number 5003 and was called to window 14 at around 8.20.
The gentleman asked for my passport and pictures took my fingerprints, and then asked for birth certificate and copy, I only had an adoption certificate that he said he would have to check if it was ok, which I was not to worried about as it said on packet 3 birth or adoption certificate. I then handed over the police record and a copy, I 134 and supporting documents tax return... read complete review

Arrived at 8.15 am and joined the queue. Got into the embassy about 8:50 am.
Waited untill 10:20 to be called to window 14, asked for originals of birth, divorce and marriage certificates. They accepted a copy of my marriage certificate in conjunction with an accompanying letter from the divorce court saying they could not provide a certified copy, as the original had still not arrived from St Lucia. I also had to fill in a D157.
Back to waiting for about 45 minutes then called for the interview took about 4 minutes and APPROVED

If you can find your way to grosvenor square, its not hard to spot the american embassy - its the big ugly squat concrete building that broods over the end of the square.
I was nervous as hell when I turned up, however it really is nothing to worry about!
Don't bring anything electronic, and take as little metal stuff as possible. I just had my watch, belt, keys and some coins, and was given a clear plastic bag to put them in when I went through the security check. The guy in front of me told me he had had a pocket knife with him, so had had to take it to the pharmacy up the road, where you can leave stuff like that. Presumably they'll take any other weaponry, sharp pointy things, or WMD's you might happen to have on your person...
It took half and hour of queueing to get to the security check, which consisted of an airport style scanner for my stuff, and one of those metal detector arch thingies for me. Of course I had to take my belt off ... read complete review

My interview was at 9.00 am wednesday the 18th in London.
I arrived about 8.40 am and it took about 10 minutes for me to get inside the embassy after showing a security guy my appointment letter and my passport. I then went through security checks and into the embassy (NOTE: when you arrive take a plastic bag from the guy standing near the line and put all money, keys and belts etc. in there). I got to the desk and was given a ticket with 5009 on it, and told to sit down. I would describe it as like a mix between a post office and an airport. Much bigger than i thought. It took about an hour for my number to be called and then i went to counter 12. The guy took my passport photos, passport, birth and police certs. Then he took my affidavit of support. It turns out they couldn't find my Pkt 3 so the guy had me fill it out again by hand in front of him, but he was very nice and patient about it and said it was their fault and so he bumped me to the top of the list of peop... read complete review

Phew!!! It's finally over and we have our visa!!
Had an 8.30am appointment and arrived about 8.20, but would suggest arriving as early as possible, because all of the immigrant visa applications seem to arrive around the same time and the earlier you are in the queue can make a big difference in waiting time, as they seem to process one case at a time (immigrant visas only).
We waited about an hour initially to see the first officer who just checked through our file and ensured all documents were there (took about 5-6 mins)before asking us to sit down and wait to be called again.
Waited for about another hour and a half to be called again, this time to be met by a friendly (but intense) female officer. My wife had come over from the US for the interview but the officer told her that it was an interview of me and that she couldn't say anything, make gestures, or otherwise affect the interview. She then asked the expected questions about how ... read complete review
