Arrived at 7:55 AM for a 8:00 AM interview. The queue starts from outside so its best to take an umbrella as we found out after being in the drizzle for 20 minutes. Once we reached the initial security they asked us to deposit our cell phones to a chemist a block away. Wasted another 2 pounds and 15 minutes in this process. Recommendation, leave all metal and electronics behind including your waist belt. Then secondary inspection (still outside) involved verifying the picture on the passport. The third inspection (inside) involved an xRay with *you guessed it) all metals and electronics off. Once cleared you went to the reception desk to get a paper token. Once a number was assigned we walked to the waiting hall and took a seat. This process took an entire hour.
At around 10:00 AM our number was finally called. The person validated our documents and asked us to fill a courier (pink) form for returning the passport if the visa is issued. This process took 10 minutes. He ... read complete review

Would advise people to arrive as soon as embassy opens, they don't seem to stick to appointment times, it's first-come-first-served. I arrived at 9:40 for a 10:00 appointment, was finished by about 13:30 (not sure of time, had to leave my phone at home!)
Only issue was I had a short-form birth certificate instead of long-form. They told me to get the long-form certificate and courier it back to them with my passport. They would then return the birth certificate and passport with the visa in- which they did

So, my interview was set for 9am Tuesday 2nd Feb 2010. I live miles away, so I decided to get a hotel that was close...ish to the embassy and grab a taxi their instead.
I got a night at the Kings cross travelodge Royal Scott (kings cross road). Not a place I would recommend, room was run down, no heating, pillow (yes they only give you one) was small. The food at the bar was cold and the portions were small.
Tuesday morning comes, taxi is booked for 8am, I arrive outside the embassy @ 8.20am, time for a quick smoke. 8.30 comes, I walk up-to the booth outside where you have to show your P4 letter and passport. Then, they ask you to remove everything from your pockets (keys, coins, wallet etc.) remove your watch and belt also and pop them in the clear bag they give you, and ask you to move forward and wait in line (luckily I was one of the first people there). Then a security guard asked you to come into a booth, just like at an airport you have to put your ... read complete review

We arrived about an hour before our 8:30am appointment. There was a que to show your documents and then a second que to enter the security booth. The process took about 45 minutes. We entered the building and recieved a number from a woman at a reception desk. When we arrived there was no line but when we left there was a que for numbers. We took a seat and were called to a window to show documentation. After a brief panic when she could not locate the medical results, and answering a few generic questions ( where do you work, what will you do in US, where will you live etc)we were told to go back and wait for Interviewer to call us. If your medical was done before your Interview date was assigned it will be in a different location from the rest of your file and they need to go get it. This took maybe 5 minutes. We were called to second window and asked a few questions. All of the questions were already answered in the documents she held in front of her and she made notes on file as we s... read complete review
