Before i went to the interview i went to the pharmacy down the road and got my 2 photos and gave them my keys and phone to store. The staff are really nice and friendly. I got to the embassy before my 9am appointment and there were loads of people waiting in the line. Took 30 mins or more to get through security. Once in received my I number and then tried to find a sit. At this point i should have got myself a drink as i then spent the next 4 hour scared to death that i was going to miss my I number being called out as i saw about 400 N numbers, After 4 hours of trying to read a book.....my number was called, I went to window 13 (luckily didn't have time to think about that)A nice young british guy gave me an envelope with my xrays in, now i'd heard they would do this but for some reason i thought it would be a proper xray that i could see, however it is on a disc... he then asked me to produce my birth certificate and copy, police report and copy, I134 and supporting evidence. London US Embassy, May 7th 2010
Unlike most people I’m sure. I decided to go down to London and home in the same day rather than heading down and staying in a hotel the night before my interview, firstly because my interview time was 10am rather than stupid early, and secondly because as it happens the airline ticket prices were the same at BA as they were with EasyJet for the first time in history. Easyjet could have got me into Luton about 20mins later than my interview tag on train/tube times and it’s not an option, or the evening before, while BA would get me there about 1hr 40mins early Leaving plenty of time to get to the embassy, (Also BA serves Breakfast on the way down)
I stayed at my brothers the night before my interview so I could get to the airport quicker than if I’d stayed at home, got up at 4:45am, as he had to be at work around 5:30, so he dropped me off at Aberdeen airport (ABZ) around 5:10, the pl... read complete review

Long story short 
I got to the embassy about 8 and was sat down with my number ready to go! Security was a breeze and the line moved quite quickly! Plus it was nice and sunny out so it didn't bother me waiting
At approximately 8:50 I got called up to window 14 and was met by a very nice American woman from Virginia! (We had a bit of small talk half way through and she told me!) She requested my interview letter and my passport, she quickly checked over them and then took my fingerprints. She then requested my birth certificate +copy and my police certificate. She then pulled my file which contain all the stuff my fiancée had sent in plus all the documents I had sent in from packet 3, a quick check over these and she requested my affidavit of support which she went through and picked out the bits she needed (She was impressed with the amount my fiancée had provided lol! My interview was scheduled for 8am. I arrived to the embassy at 7:10am and there were already about 20 people ahead of me queuing. An english lady did an initial sweep down the line at about 7:30, telling people what they could and couldn't have with them. I had arranged to leave my phone and music player elsewhere, and luckily none of my keys had an electronic fob, as those also were not allowed which caught out a fair few people. The rule was anything that "has a button" is not allowed, I would advise against anything with circuitry (watches are fine).
The same lady then did an initial sort though person by person, and checked again that everyone had the correct items. For this I needed the appointment letter and passport only.
We then moved on to an american security guard, who checked the exact same paperwork. We were then ushered through the metal detectors, and had our bags scanned. I was asked to taste my water.

I arrived at embassy just before 8am. A security officer checked my passport and appointment letter and asked me to put my coins into a plastic bag, and take off my belt. At the head of the queue, I was called forward and another security officer checked my passport and appointment letter. We were then called into the glass security building in groups of four and given our security check.
I carried a laptop bag containing a document folder and a bottle of water. After walking through the x-ray machine, I was asked to drink some water to prove it wasn't in any shape or form a danger to public safety. After this I proceeded around the perimeter of the building and up the stairs leading to the main embassy building. Inside, I was given a sticker that was loosely attached to the appointment letter. This indicates your ticket number, and time of entry into the building. From joining the queue and entering the building it took me about fifty minutes.
