From arriving outside to getting out of the building - 4 hours.
2 hour wait for first call to submit documents and fingerprints, however, I was at the bathroom when my number came up - there are only 2 toilets for females and a long queue and the tannoy system cannot be heard in the bathroom so you take a risk in going there! When I came out the bathroom I checked the screens and saw that my number had been called - I rushed to the window only to be met by a mean looking CO who said she was about to close her window as I had not come when my number was called. I explained I was at the bathroom, but that would make NO difference. If you don't hear your number, they have a right to send you away and go back to square 1 in applying for a new interview date - so be aware - go to the bathroom at your own risk!
She was stressed, and to be quite honest, who can blame them - there are hundreds of people in there, the paperwork must be astonomical. She said was sighing and grum... read complete review

Interview appointment was at 8:30am, so I arrived at around 8:10. There was a small queue, mostly students. Finally got inside just before 9am after going through security and getting a number. About an hour and a half later I finally get called to the interview window. Hand over my affidavit of supports, passport and birth/police certificate then was told to fill out this pink courier slip and wait again for my number to be called. Another hour later I went back to another window when another gentleman saw me. After asking me when we got engaged and explaining to him how many times we had seen each other he asked me to write her full name on this form then sign it. After that he told me that he had already gone through our packet and everything looked perfect... approved! Told me to pay the courier fee and the visa + passport should be back with me in 3-5 days.
Just a word of caution, Bring something to read/do with you or you will be bored out of your minds like I was... read complete review

I live in London so getting to the embassy was not an issue. My interview appointment was at 9:30 am. I arrived at Bond street station (a 5 minutes walk to the embassy) at 7:50 am and was outside of the embassy at 8:00 am. The embassy doesn’t allow people in until 8:30 am and there was already a short queue. Once the embassy opened I went through the various check points:
1. Show passport and collect a plastic bag for any metal you may be carrying (strictly no electronics).
2. Show passport again with appointment letter.
3. Go into an annex and though metal detector.
4. Go into the embassy building and show appointment letter to a receptionist who assigns your number. Mine was R906 (There were 6 immigrant visa interviews in front of me)
Please note that I was assigned my number at 8:30 am 1 hour before my interview was scheduled. I wouldn’t risk getting to the embassy more than 2 hours before you interview is scheduled.

Before i went to the interview i went to the pharmacy down the road and got my 2 photos and gave them my keys and phone to store. The staff are really nice and friendly. I got to the embassy before my 9am appointment and there were loads of people waiting in the line. Took 30 mins or more to get through security. Once in received my I number and then tried to find a sit. At this point i should have got myself a drink as i then spent the next 4 hour scared to death that i was going to miss my I number being called out as i saw about 400 N numbers, After 4 hours of trying to read a book.....my number was called, I went to window 13 (luckily didn't have time to think about that)A nice young british guy gave me an envelope with my xrays in, now i'd heard they would do this but for some reason i thought it would be a proper xray that i could see, however it is on a disc... he then asked me to produce my birth certificate and copy, police report and copy, I134 and supporting evidence. He the... read complete review

London US Embassy, May 7th 2010
Unlike most people I’m sure. I decided to go down to London and home in the same day rather than heading down and staying in a hotel the night before my interview, firstly because my interview time was 10am rather than stupid early, and secondly because as it happens the airline ticket prices were the same at BA as they were with EasyJet for the first time in history. Easyjet could have got me into Luton about 20mins later than my interview tag on train/tube times and it’s not an option, or the evening before, while BA would get me there about 1hr 40mins early Leaving plenty of time to get to the embassy, (Also BA serves Breakfast on the way down)
I stayed at my brothers the night before my interview so I could get to the airport quicker than if I’d stayed at home, got up at 4:45am, as he had to be at work around 5:30, so he dropped me off at Aberdeen airport (ABZ) around 5:10, the pl... read complete review
