I had my K1 interview on Friday 9th May.

I was travelling down from Scotland, so stayed at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington (1 minute away from High Street Kensington Tube Station).

My appointment was for 9:30am, however after reading countless reviews on here, I decided to chance it and go early. Plus I had barely slept the night before so I was up early anyway.

I got to the Embassy (after walking through Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park to get there, trying to count the runners to take my mind off the interview and also dropping my phone off at Goulds) around 7:45, to find there was already a queue of around ~75/100 people.

I took my place at the back of the queue, and it moved relatively quickly. I had my interview letter checked by the first Embassy staff member, and then as I got to the front of the queue, which I think is the desk where they check your forms etc (although I only got to about 10 people away from the... read complete review

The staff outside the embassy were unfriendly and unhelpful. The first lady inside the embassy that took the documents from me was lovely. The immigration officer was a very nice and friendly man. The whole process INSIDE the embassy was a breeze, even though my case was complex. The English staff outside the embassy were very rude.

Travelled to London the day before my interview as my appointment was for 8am. Stayed in Kensington HIgh St, which would have been so handy had the trains and underground not decided to strike from 9 pm the day I arrived until the day AFTER my interview!! Just my luck! However I booked a cab to pick me up at 7am and I was at the embassy at 7 10 am and only about 10 others in the queue. Had to go through airport style security 4 people at a time. My ticket no. was I903 and was called within about 10 mins to window 13 where a lovely young American asked me for my original certificates, birth, marriage, etc and also for copies. Had my fingerprints taken and then told to take a seat and would be called for my interview later. 5 mins later my number popped up again on the large screen at the front of the waiting room, I has to go to window 15. The lady there was quite pleasant but not as chatty as the first one, obviously she has to be formal. Has to take the oath, fingerprints taken ag... read complete review

My appointment was at 9am but as I was keen to get an earlier train back to Scotland I decided to chance my arm and turn up at 7.30. This was no problem whatsoever and wasn't even mentioned by the lady checking the appointment letters.

I was at the Embassy for about 7.30 and there were already queues forming. You join the queue on the left and have your letter checked and are moved to the queue to the right if you are an immigrant visa applicant.

Your letter and passport are then checked again before you are allowed into the glass security booth, which was staffed by two lovely Londoners. You go through a metal detector and your bag is x-rayed and then you are allowed to into the actual compound. You walk to the right (past some security guards with machine guns - say hello, they'll give you a wee hello back which helped calm me down) then round a corner to the left and then up stairs to be greeted by some Londoners behind a desk who check you appoint... read complete review
