Everyone at the Consulate from the cleaning staff, security and consular officers were friendly and professional. I see why people say this is one of the best embassies to go through. If your request is legitimate and sincere, you will have no problem. I arrived at 08h20 for my 09h00 interview. The consular officer took all my civil documents at 09h30. At 11h15 I had my interview which lasted no more than 12 minutes (if that long), I was approved and forwarded to the DHL counter for delivery. The consular officer asked a few questions but other than my civil documents, they asked for nothing else (no phone records, emails, proof, etc.). The questions related to how we met and time spent together. I was fully prepared with a load of evidence but it was not requested
All in all, a painless experience. I received my visa on 22 May which was expedited for delivery as I leave on Sunday 25 May. Very efficient overall.

All went as planned.
A few interesting questions but nothing out of the ordinary.
If you're request is sincere, and you have all your stuff in order, there shouldn't be too much of a problem

Eben arrived at the consulate at 7:20 for his 9am appointment. There were a lot of people in line so they only let the people with 8am appointments in. He got in at about 8:30. Seems to me that for a 9am appointment there is no reason to get there too early. He rang the bell at window 7 and told them he was there for his interview with Vishan. Vishan called him up and asked him for all of the paperwork and took his fingerprints. Since they were so busy Vishan told him that rather than sitting around waiting he should go over to the mall across the street and have some lunch and come back around 2pm. When he went back he had his interview. They asked how we met and how our relationship progressed and Eben showed them pictures of us together since we originally applied. She said that everything was in order and congratulations. All they still had to do was check his medical and fingerprints. They gave him a slip to give to the DHL desk in the embassy so that they could arrange the return... read complete review

My fiance had his interview at the Johannesburg consulate this morning and was granted our K1 visa! After 9 months of waiting, we finally have it! We are very thankful to the Lord for His guidance and mercy. Here is my fiance's experience as he relayed it to me:
He arrived at the consulate at 8:15am for a 9:00am appointment. He stood in the first queue for about 45 minutes. He showed his passport, appointment letter, receipt for bank deposit and DS-156 form and was then given a number to proceed to the security checkpoint queue. He stayed in that line for about 10 minutes at which point they took his medical envelope from him to keep for the case worker. He was told to go to window 7/8 and wait for his number to be called. After waiting an hour and a half, he was called to the window and was asked to present all the same documents as before along with the police certificates, birth certificates, I-134 and my last year's tax return, DS-156 and DS-157. He then was told to ... read complete review

My fiancée interview was scheduled on Feb 14 2008 and My fiancée and I went to the Consulate on Feb 11 2008 for letting them know that I am in town. On Feb 11 2008 we did our medicals. The medicals took us more than R1500 because she had to take the vaccinations. The vaccinations are costly. You need to have been tested for chicken pu...(I can't not spell it)to avoid the vaccination. On Feb 13 we went to the Dr. M. Singer's office to collect our results and everything was great. On Feb 14 2008, we got at the consulate at 7:30 AM. We found a line has already been formed. There were about 11 individuals in front of us. We got in the consulate about 8:00 AM, and we waited for hour. Our case worker waived us in the other side of the window. They don't call names, you need to keep looking at the window to see if your case worker is in there. There were about 3 individuals came for immigrant visa. We all were at the windows 7 and 8. These windows are for immigrant visa only. At 10 minutes ... read complete review
