IMMIGRANT VISA INTERVIEW AT US EMBASSY, JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – SEPTEMBER 2008
All staff at Embassy are fantastic .. from security to the case worker, as well as the interviewer.
Be sure to take along your Letter of Appointment, as even although they don’t specify you need to do so, this is needed at the check-in box outside the embassy to gain access to the building. Upon receipt of your letter of appointment the receptionist will issue you with a number and time when your ticket is issued.
Security will allow only one person in at a time. All battery operated items like a rolodex, mobile phones (switched off before you enter the building), chargers and lighters are kept at security. You are permitted to keep your watch if battery operated.
Prohibited items are scissors (even tweezers that resemble scissors), carpet cutters (Stanley knives) and obviously firearms and knives/weapons and this includes any karate typ... read complete review

We were treated with respect and kindness. They did delay with getting us our packet and scheduling an interview. It took about 3 phone calls.

I had my K-3 visa interview today and I must say I read all the reviews before my interview and they were right on target. The people were friendly, helpful and informative. They also were very helpful and speedy with emails, prior to my interview. I wasn't asked for evidence of support or even the proof I'd paid my interview fee, which I found weird. Then after submitting my forms, photos, waiting about two hours to answer about five easy questions, I was told to go see DHL and arrange to have my visa deliverd. There is also a very nice bathroom and vending machine inside the waiting area, so you have all bases covered. I was very impressed with the Johannesburg office after having numerous bad experiences with the Durban branch.

I had my consulate interview on 30th June 2008. People were right....South Africa have an excellent consulate to work through. Everybody from the security, case worker and consular interviewer were professional, friendly, helpful, understanding and very efficient.
I arrived around 0800 for my interview at 0900....my deposit slip, application form and photos were checked prior to letting me into the consulate.
Make sure your pictures are the right size...
I was thoroughly searched at the security point, but everybody is friendly and professional.
At 0900 my caseworker called me and checked all our documents that had to be completed and asked a few questions like where I met my husband, how long we've known each other, where he works and such.....nothing too serious. He also paged through our wedding album. Then he told my daughter and I that we can take break and should be back by 1300 for our next interview with a consular... read complete review

Dijani had her interview on Thursday May 29th, 2008. She said that everything went nice and smooth and she was approved no problem.
Her interview was scheduled for 9:00am. She arrived at about 7-7:30am and stood in line. Right before she went in, a woman from the embassy came out and looked at some of her papers. She was informed that her passport pictures were n ot the correct size. This did not make any sense since all the paper she had just said "passport size photos" which was what she had. But either way she ran across the street to the mall and got new photos in the "correct" size. this was the only problem she had.
She went back to emassy and got right in side. She was called up to the window after waiting for a little while. She was met by her case worker who asked for her forms. He looked at the name and said, "This won't be any big deal. i know who you are. Ever since your papers arrived, your fiancee has been emailing me almost everyday with... read complete review
