Arrived at the Consulate at 12:25 for 1 o clock appointment. One or two people before us in line.
At 12:45 they let us in one by one. You go inside and just take a seat and wait to be called.
We got called after 5 minutes or so by a South African lady to window 5. She asked for passport and 2 photos. Thereafter, fingerprints were taken and she asked a couple of questions which were very basic and simple. That was done. Took maybe 5 minutes. She said to have a seat and wait for officer to call u up.
We waited 10-15 minutes and got called up to window 7 by an American officer who was extremely nice and friendly. She really put us at ease. We had our 5 month old daughter with us so she asked to see her lol. Then asked us the following questions:
1/ How did you guys meet (in details)?
2/ What petitioner is doing in South Africa?
3/ What beneficiary is doing in South Africa?
4/ Do you (beneficiary) have any re... read complete review

My Fiance interviewed in Jo'burg for his K-1 Visa. Here is what was relayed to me:
Arrived at embassy and asked to leave his phone with security (he already knew that, but he didn't have anywhere to put it so he took it with him). He arrive at 12:45pm. There was so much traffic he was almost late, so leave early. He was coming from Pretoria. He went inside and was instructed to take a seat and they would call his name. His name was called and he went to the first window with a South African woman. She asked for his packet 3 and according to my fiance, she didn't even ask him any questions about our relationship. He was instructed to go pay the fee but when he got to the window with the 3 $100 bills, they would not accept one of them because it had writing on it. Apparently they have to be spanking new bills or bills that have not been altered? I thought it was weird that they wouldn't take it. He had to go outside and find an ATM to get rand. They only take ei... read complete review

The overall experience at the Johannesburg, Sandton Consulate was positive: from the security guards to the interviewers.
They checked for letter of invitation for the appointment outside the security check point. leave all electronic goods includ. headphones in your car.
Walked into the door, took a seat (didnt need to get a number) and waited to be called. A South African lady called me to the window and asked for the forms and photographs which i passed through the hole (similar to a bank teller window).
She started to capture information on the computer while talking to me: how did we meet, when did we meet, did i meet his family? how was that? where did we get engaged etc.. (they dont like to use the telephone, so everyone gets to hear your conversation; equally. you also get to hear theirs..)
Then I had to hand over the evidence and it was a little difficult to fit the photo album through the hole in the window and went to pay f... read complete review
