God bless any of you who have had to work with the same group of individuals of this Embassy, as we have. Giovanni and I got engaged on 11/18/2006 and the Texas Service Center received my petition for Giovanni on 12/07/2006. Our I-129F was approved on 03/17/2007. Things didn't start to get bad until our case arrived with the Consulate of El Salvador. We never received "Packet 3" from them. We called that useless, expensive number to Mexico about 8 times and were ALWAYS given contradicting information. We could call one day and get some piece of information and then call the very next day and be told something completely different! On 10/20/2007 we thought we were FINALLY getting somewhere with these incompetent morons, when Giovanni received "Packet 3" from them. However, we soon realized that the fools had sent the WRONG packet!! They sent a K3 packet and not a K1! When we called to complain, we got the same speach we'd heard a million times: "We'll file a report. Wait 30 da... read complete review

The Salvadoran consulate has been a complete nightmare. They have made mistake after mistake through every step of the process. First, our initial packet 3 was either lost in the mail or never sent. Then, they forgot to put our name on the interview list. Then, they added it to the list but only got the case number right but with someone else's name. Each time it takes at least another month for them to finally get it right. Now they have approved our visa and supposedly issued it 2 days after the interview but we still haven't received it 3 weeks later and Cargo Expreso says that the embassy hasn't sent it yet. Get ready for some patience if you have to work with the Salvadoran Consulate.

The US consulate in San Salvador is generally inaccessible and frustrating. It is almost impossible to talk to someone in person and the outsourcing of information to Mexico is extremely frustrating and prohibitive having to pay $7.50 for them to tell you to wait for to six more months. You can email - but it will take weeks for a response.

I have had some luck working through my senator's offices - but the information is often just to wait. At least they respond faster to my senators than they do to me.

Emailing the embassy generally gets a response within 7 days.

Calling the San Salvador embassy (which actually calls somewhere in Mexico) costs $7 from the USA and they have no idea what they're talking about. I was told to call back numerous times, and when I did, they told me to call back again, etc. They also had told me to wait so many days before contacting them about the same issue, and I ended up emailing the embassy the same day and they forwarded me the packet by email the next day. Otherwise I would have waited another month before they would re-send me the packet by snail-mail (total of 90 days!). They contradict each other.

Also, my husband could not find any place to buy the Telefonica VISA phone cards in the Santa Ana province of El Salvador, making it literally impossible for him to call the embassy from there. I complained to the Mexican call center, and they said that perhaps at the embassy they sell the cards. So you have to go all ... read complete review

I pity the couple that has to deal with El Salvador. They give the American government a bad name because they are so disorganized, inefficient and callous. They have outsourced their customer service to a company in Mexico and it only makes everything more idiotic because you have a bunch of people that cannot speak good English depending on a monthly update from the embassy. The embassy does not respond to emails. In our case, they sent out packet 3 twice and the Visa Service Center wanted us to complete the requirements twice. We paid to have packet 4 sent by courier to my fiance in El Salvador and it was sent by regular mail to me in the States. At the interview, she had to endure questions on our sexual activity which I find very disrespectful and unsavory. After being told that she would have her visa and passport back in a week by a consular official, I bought an airline ticket. Now find it will be an additional 4 to 6 weeks. So, if you are dealing with El Salvador, plan... read complete review
