So we got there the day before our interview on the 30th, and I got to the DR on the 29th. We spent the night at Jardines del Teatro which is a really nice little hotel thats less than a full block away from the consulate. Highly recommend it, they have a kitchen and fridge so you can cut down on food expenses as their is a super market a few blocks away. The woman who owns it is very nice and is an aspiring architect who actually designed the hotel!
So we didnt sleep the night before, we were far too nervous. We decided to get in line at 5:30 in the morning for our appointment at 6:45. This is where the fun starts. I decided to bring a USB drive with all of our texts, AIM logs and Skype logs because our skype alone was 3000+ pages and we just didnt want to carry around that many pages. So about an hour after waiting in line we got to the front door and the separated guys from gals and i took our file with our hundreds of pages and the USB drive. Mariel in the other l... read complete review

We had our CR-1 visa interview on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. We had been told to get there early because of the long line. My husband drove and parked in a parking lot about a half a block away from the embassy. It cost us $150 pesos to park there for the day. We walked across the street and turned the corner and got into line. There were 3-4 people walking around with yellow shirts on with 'INFO' written on the back. We asked where we needed to make a line and the guy told us it was the long one. I saw 3 different lines. There were 2 under a white awning next to the main entrance: the long was was for immigrant visas and the other was a shorter line and it was for non-immigrant visas. The third line wrapped back towards us from the other side of the embassy and I later found out that that line was for follow-up interview stuff...I will explain more later.
We got in line about 6:00 am and there may have been 90-100 people already there before us. As soon as the line started... read complete review

I arrived in Santo Domingo on May 3 and met Vlad at the Melia Santo Domingo. It was facing the ocean and was 7 miles from the Embassy. On May 4, we left mid morning to the banco popular to get the receipt for his visa and then got it line at 11am to get his medical exam results for the interview tomorrow. Interview day, May 5. I read previous reviews from people about getting there very early. I did not see the point of that because you just stand there in line and it does not determine which random number you will receive inside. We arrived 5am, but would of been fine if we arrived at 545am for the 645am appointment. The area is covered in case it rains. When they let us inside, we went thru security, they asked for our appointment letter and seperated men and women in the security line. It is open air with fans. There are several metal benches lined up with several large TV screens. I brought my own snacks in my purse and they were fine with that, they did not take them away fro... read complete review

We stayed at the Jardines Del Teatro hotel (809-687-5114) 1/2 block away from the embassy. the room was a bit small but was fine for one night. cost $60 usd. there is no BIG sign according to the owner because they really want to stay away from the drunk walk-ins people. The owner (Hilda) was the sweetest thing ever. She was very polite and helpful. The hotel is well secured with cameras etc.
Our appointment was for 6.15am. We left the hotel at 5.25am. We got to the Embassy at 5.30am but there were almost 150 people ahead of us in the line.
They began admitting people into the Embassy at 6.10am. We got in at 6.50am. We were first called to window # 16 at 8.01am. A middle age gentleman very friendly but professional took my spouse passport, bank of Popular receipt, police certificate and the medical documents. He reviewed our file/documents and ask a few questions with regards to our documents (Spouse address in DR, If spous... read complete review

We arrived at 5:15 a.m. and there were about 40 people in line. The area to stand in is covered (which is good because it was raining that morning). Around 6 a.m. they opened the doors and started letting people inside. They separate men and women to go through the security checkpoint.
Once inside the area is large with multiple metal benches to sit on. The benches weren't that bad because they have a back to them so you can lean backwards. There are five televisions that were playing the channel "TNT" (american movies). The cafeteria area is located at the end of the building. We didn't try any of the food but it seemed basic. There are multiple fans blowing air (thankfully the day we were there was BEAUTIFUL weather so it wasn't hot at all)
The bathroom had no toilet paper so plan accordingly. There is water available for free to drink.
At 7:20 a.m. we were called to Window 14. The P.A. system is somewhat hard to hear and they ta... read complete review
