  1. A glimmer of hope: I was an early October filer, had my interview (divorce waiver) at the start of July. She mentioned something about having forgotten to do background checks on a bunch of packets (mine being one of them) and told me it shouldn't be too long. Three weeks later, I'm still looking at "Initial Review" on the case status page, and nothing but spam comes in the mail. Sometimes they forget stuff, and we are the forgotten, but we're still here, doing what we do, and getting closer to the big N-date. Stay cool, stay persistent, and life will come to you. :D

  2. Because I never got added to the list, don't want to feel left out!

  4. No skeletons in the closet, the worst that has ever happened to me was a speeding ticket back in January - my first ever one - and I burst into tears when the dude pulled me over. Hah!

Thanks guys. It helps just to have people say the things I'm thinking. I have to admit, it's easy to cave back to all the stress and depression when I see everyone else getting their GCs. I never thought 5 years ago just how much stuff I'd have to wade through, let alone with a divorce thrown into the mix. I have a new guy now, a lovely home, a fantastic job, and I just want to close the book on that part of my life and feel 100% optimistic for the future. I know it will happen, but I'm just sick of those dark clouds hanging over, I want to be able to forget it all and move on.

  5. Pretty much as the title states, I filed I-751 with waiver due to divorce, got an interview, she approved me on the spot and took my expired GC, said that I should have my GC soon, but "They forgot to run background checks on a few of the packets" so it might be a bit longer. I wasn't concerned when she said it (AFAIK I'm squeaky clean!), but now I realize I should have paid a bit more attention to what she was saying, rather than rejoicing in it all being over.

It's been a week since the interview and I've not received any news or notice of GC production - should I be doing things to track or check in? I'm guessing this is normal, but I'm also eager to have GC in hand so I want to be on top of it if there's more I can be doing.

Thanks in advance - your info has been invaluable to me, and prevented many a meltdown. (L)

  6. I feel like this thread is dead, but anyway, I went in for my interview yesterday morning and was approved. Yay! The lady was lovely, super nice and understanding, didn't put the heat on me about anything - it was more like a clerical meeting than an interview. Apparently there's still a background check that they forgot to do, but once that's cleared they'll be putting my order in for the 10 year GC. I'm happy I can move on with my life :)

  7. Just an FYI, if you used the Turbo Tax free edition, it's surprisingly hard to get any of your previous tax returns - they lock them out after a certain time. There's a workaround (ish) that was accepted by the interviewing officer I just met with - when you log in and see "My Tax Timeline", scroll down to the year you want and click it (eg "2012 Tax Return"). It'll have a column on the right - "Some things you can do:", click "Amend/Change return" - it'll pop up with a box "How to amend your 2012 return", from there the "Download your .tax file" link is unlocked, and should allow you to download the file (from the main screen it tells you it's locked out). You'll need their crappy software to open it, but you can then print a report thing, which shows your filing status etc. Like I say, my office accepted it as additional evidence.

  8. I'm a permanent resident, and when we filed, I had to get sponsors as my husband did not make enough. Now, unfortunately, he has to get medical aid as we cannot afford the medication. Will this in any way affect my sponsors? I don't particularly want to disclose my husband's medical situation to them but I need to let them know if they are going to be landed with a bill of some sort! Thanks!

  9. I think you'll be a-okay!

I'm getting a little nervous about our flight out at the beginning of February. I keep telling GH as long as we make it into Boston okay I'll rent a car and barrel on through to Buffalo!! It's the right time of year (end of Jan beginning of Feb) for everything to go belly-up weather wise in the Buff. If we can just make it in on the 2nd, I don't care if all hell breaks loose on the 3rd (at least my folks have a generator) :) :)

So are you pretty much all packed and ready to go?? x

I'll be thinking of you, I'm sure it will be ok though. I've been thinking of placing a bet that it will snow, so either way I win.

Last lot of clothing is in the washing machine now, 3 cases almost packed up and one bit of hand luggage. I think I'll be prepared on time for once, rather than running late like I always do

  10. I fly on Saturday and I'm petrified of what's going on outside. I don't want to be suspended in the air with all this wind and rain!!

Who else is flying soon? When are you booked for? My weather actually says there's only a 10% chance of rain, although it's barely going to be above freezing so I'm worried it might snow.

  11. My blue slip says: IF YOU FAIL TO TAKE THE ACTION REQUESTED WITHIN ONE YEAR FOLLOWING VISA DENIAL.... BLAH BLAH ....REQUIRES THAT YOUR APPLICATION BE CANCELLED.

    I think you're good :)

Also look at my timeline, delivered Tuesday, arrived Weds, left embassy Thurs and visa in hand by Friday.

And and and, the DX man just turns up and takes it, he doesn't take any other paperwork or make you fill anything in (if it's like mine at least). The passport seemed to magically connect with everything when it got there.

  12. I would use Momondo.com first, they're pretty accurate with the price ranges. Also, try flying from and to central hubs (eg. rather than flying from Luton to San Diego, try LHR to Los Angeles) as this can decrease the price by hundreds of pounds.

After Momondo, try ASDA travel - twice now they've beaten all other quoted prices for me. This time I saved £2! :P

    Oh, and congrats :D

  13. jon&cess: Congratulations, that was clearly an approval and you're going to be home soon - how perfect is that!?

nickky: SOOOO happy for you too - well done!

A+H: Deep breaths. They're not looking to catch you out, they just want to finalize everything in the paperwork, it's not a test - it's tying up loose ends, just remember how much you love each other and know your paperwork inside out, you'll be fine.

Me? Well, my visa turned up in the post on Friday and I booked my flights today. This time next week I'll be in the arms of my soul mate for the first time for the rest of forever. My mind is so peaceful right now!
