The marriage license has to be filled out - date (within 90 days after the license was issued) and city where the marriage took place; signatures of witnesses and the officiating person who conducted the marriage. Follow the instructions that was included in the packet where you got your license (this is a separate piece of paper). The address of the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk was also there to send the filled out license and mail it together with a check or money order (fee for recording). In 2005, the processing took 4 weeks before I got the marriage certificate back completed from the County Clerk.

A copy of the marriage certificate is the one that you submit - not the marriage license.

I used the name that was indicated on the marriage license. I have 4 first names - when we got our marriage license, there was not enough space so it was just indicated something like this: Jonna J. L. A. Lim. My passport did not shorten my 4 first names. I suggest use the one with Cindy. You should be fine.

if you know downtown L.A. I suggest you take the blue line and you do not have to pay the $20 parking. It's very convenient.

Hi all,
I married my chinese sweetheat in July 08. At the ceremony we were given little red passport sized books that I was thinking was our marriage license. Am I correct on this assumption? USCIS has sent me a NOA stating that it appeared that the marriage has not beed registered. Also, she has been married before, and I have sent in a divorce certificate. USCIS is asking for a divorce decree, is there a difference?

in california, the license has to be filled out (as to the date of marriage, signed by witnesses and the person solemnizing the marriage) then mailed to the county recorder to be registered with a certain fee. it usually takes 4 weeks before you get your marriage certificate.

divorce decree is the document that indicates the judgment that the marriage was dissolved - signed by the judge, usually in a pleading format or judicial council form.
