  1. He will not be allowed into Canada without a waiver from the Canada consulate. He would also be at risk of arrest at the border.

My advice would not to try it with out direction from the Consulate. Deportation orders are serious and don't just fade away into history.

  2. I too take offense. That is a totally unfair remark. Like zyggy said - walk a mile in our shoes!

There is the good and bad in any occupation and by painting everyone by the same brush you are being guilty of the same bias judgement that you were victim of in your story!

  3. What??? Cut out Manitoba???? But it is such beautiful weather this time of year.

April - may be better - but always chance of snow storm - let's see I remember snow storm in May.

A long weekend in Summer is nice - if you can handle the mosquitos - bring lots of bugspray.

We will welcome you to our beloved province - remember we are "Friendly Manitoba"

  4. You should have no problems. They seem to know the K-1 and K-3 visas but not the CR-1 and the IR-1. They tried to tell me I could only cross on a K-type visa

 I just had the same thing last night. I was talking to the US CBP officer - (who is actually in the process of helping his daughter and son in law with their paper work) and I was telling him that I was thinking I was just going to co the CR1 route as I am in no rush to live in the US as I do not need a EAD to work as I will be continueing to work in Canada and I still have a residence in Canada. He didn't seem know anything about the CR-1 other than the I-130 is the first step to the K3 and told me I would have to do the K3 and couldn't just file the petition for CR-1.

I think most people want to get into the US as soon as possible thus the K3 route is probably the most common, especially at the smaller POE's where they don't have much experience with immigration.

  5. I think they could sure use some extensive training of their border officers so that they know the facts and give out correct information

Agree! And I'm sure the officers working would agree too. There is a combination of understaffing, lack of training budget and constantly changing law and procedures, and amalgamation of departments leaving few as experts in something and many scratching their heads on what ther're suppose to know in everything.

The US and Canada officers are in the same boat, at one time there were officers that were imigration, officers that were customs - now they are expected to be both...... along with enforcing over 90 other government department regulations and laws.

  6. I am not trying to excuse anybody's rude or bad behaviour. I simply would like to clarify why we do as we do and give people guidance.

Unfortunately bad attitudes and experiences are everywhere in life and in every line of work.

  7. Or is this their job to ask so many questions?

    Yes, it is their job.

I get so tired of the same questions...what can I do to keep them from asking everything except my bra size?

Answer all their questions truthfully until they are satisfied that you are a bon a fide visitor and your intent is to only visit and not to come and live in Canada illegally.

BTW....if anyone flies to Canada with their child (if you're divorced) and you have a passport OR birth certificate for that child, you better have a letter from your ex stating that he/she knows you are flying out of the country....luckily I had a copy of my divorce settlement that stated what I had to give to my ex whenever I fly out of the country with my daughter. We have joint custody (sigh) and I do believe if it hadn't of been so late that night, she would have investigated this further with me. I offered to let her use my cellphone to call my ex, to prove he knew I was flying there. This lady told me "next time you fly here, you better have a letter signed by him proving he knows you're here".

Every year thousands of children go missing - many of which end up to be parental abductions. Customs inspectors have recoved over 1150 runaway/ abducted children at the border. The officials are on full alert for children who need protection and therefor extra attention and questioning may be required as they enter Canada. Canada Customs works in partnership with RCMP, Our Missing Children, and numerous other foreign and local agencies.

If it was your child that was in danger of being abducted or taken illegally out of the country I am sure you would appreciate the work the officials do.

The following tips may be useful in helping you avoid delays when entering Canada

    Tips for Parents and Guardians

Always carry proper identification for yourself and the child(ren), such as: birth cetificate; citizenship card; passport; baptismal certificate; Record of Landing (IMM1000) or Registered Indian Card.

If you have the legal custody of the child(ren), have copies of relevant documents such as: custody rights.

If you are not the legal guardian of the child(ren), carry a letter of permission or authorization for you to have custody when entering Canada. A letter would also facilitate entry for any one parent traveling with their child(ren). If possible, this permission should contain contact telephone numbers for the legal quardian or parent.

If you are traveling as part of a caravan, be sure that you are in the same vehicle as your child(ren) when you arrive at the border.

Have your child(ren) memorize your home and/or office telephone number and teach him/her to reach you in an emergency situation.

If you are traveling with children and encounter a few or more questions than normal from our Customs Inspectors or Immigration Officers, please be patient. The protection and safety of children is everybody's concern.

  8. Sorry to post so many times but I have a couple more questions. I was wondering what I tell Canadian customs when i'm going in to canada. would it be wise to tell them i'm there for my husband's interview? I visited him a lot in October and i mentioned i was visiting my husband once when i was crossing and they sent me into a room and held me up for quite some time.

When asked what is the purpose of your trip - you should be honest and tell them you are going to visit him and accompany him to his US immigration interview at the consulate. Can't guarantee you won't be asked additional question but it will be to clarify that your entry into Canada is for what you say it is and you are not coming to live with him.

  9. We did one up and could not be happier... now. But what getting it down was a huge test of our relationship and resulted in the biggest argument yet. After dealing with 3 lawyers it got pretty ugly.... now I know why divorces get really ugly. My husband consulted with his lawyer, I first consulted with a Canadian lawyer and then was advised by him to consult with an American lawyer. So had to see an American one also. My suggestion is for both of you to sit down and make a list of what is important and what you both want out of the prenup and make sure that all the lawyers are clear with your wishes because when you get in their office for a consult they will turn into blood suckers. I felt so stupid and like my husband was out to screw me by the time I had left the first lawyers office.

But now it's done and we are very happy that we don't have to think about it - until we start to draft our wills - which should be another great experience at the lawyers office.

  10. One would think on their brochure they would have an USA team on the cover, nope it was Sandra Schmirlers team, could almost cry!! Such a great lady. If your not aware of one of the greatest women curlers in the world, here is a link http://www.sandraschmirler.org/SANDRA.HTM

It's like when JFK was shot and people remember that moment they heard..... I remember the day, the moment and exactly what I was doing when I heard Sandra passed. I bawled watching her furneral televised on CBC. Not only was she a great curler but she was truly an great person. I have been curling since I have been 8 years old and I truly grew up with her as my idol.

I would have liked to seen Klibrink in the Gold metal match - as Shannon lost to Schmirler in those Olympic trials...... I was there in Brandon watching front row of that final.

  12. I guess that is a problem with choosing a unique name. My husbands name is Bradyn, which is a popular name now but was fairly unique when he was a kid. He hates it too - would rather be a Dave, Steve, etc. Nobody ever spells it correct and he usually gets called Brady or Brandon.

I think it's nice to have something unique rather than just another Mathew, Sarah, Jessica, Nathan, etc.
