  1. Well, you're considered self employed, so you're responsible for filing your own taxes. At the end of the year if you work over $600, odesk will send you a 1099 by Jan. 31. Odesk can file with the IRS on the client's behalf or the client can do it themselves. Maybe the link below can answer some of your questions. If not, you can also talk to a live person. Check out the Help Center on odesk. All the best!!

Thank you!! You just answered all the questions in my head :)

  2. Hi, I have a question regarding oDesk. I currently have two contracts running in oDesk right now. I just recently started few weeks ago... My question is, they are asking for W9 form in order to request for your payment. Does that mean you have to file your own taxes later too? I actually never had a job since I moved here :P and oDesk is my first job.. (while waiting for a real job)

I have friends who are working in odesk..they took the oDesk Readiness Test for Agency Contractors for them to be qualified to apply a maximum of 15 jobs per week..at first they earn a minimum of $1/hour on data entry jobs, order processing etc since they are new to odesk..and now they earn a minimum of $15-35/hours...
