  1. I'm #9329, from Feb/Mar of 2006. Same name. :)

I remember you well...since you were one of the few people in WA state at the time. :)

Hardly around here anymore...naturalized this past summer. Stopped by, like you, to see who's around. Of course many names are changed, which is horribly unfair! *waggles my finger at y'all* ;)

I olnly dropped the P and added a . lol

    LOL. You, I knew. :D

  2. If only the gunman didn't have access to a gun, this never would've happened. While we're at it, we should probably make shooting people illegal and also shooting cops illegal.

We may even want to consider making coffee illegal.

That's one of the few things that would never fly in WA state. ;)

    Chicka! How's You's?

Keepin' on. :) Busy as always. Had to come set the record straight on this coffee issue. ;)

ETA: And thanks Dean...nice to see you keeping things all donkey-ish here. :) And Chica Yaya I'm glad you agree...I think I should probably know you based on the timing but with all the name changes I can't place ya. :)

Hey sister, I used to go by Len.. always crazy and livin la vida loca in Seattle

Well that explains how you know about the coffee thing. ;) I do recall you now...my aging memory sometimes gets the better of me. ;)

  4. While I'm sure it won't sway opinions, I thought y'all might be interested in the back story on this issue which actually started with holiday season 2008.

The whole matter boils down to not everyone being able to share the sandbox with their toys, so the State decided only they get to play in the sandbox. *shrug*

  5. I thought he had answered the question already...

it seems like it is on his list of things to do....

I'm not arguing one way or the other Marilyn. I'm actually not arguing at all. I can just see both sides. It seems illogical to me to spend post after post explaining or justifying the reasons why something's not been done when that time could be spent doing it. Or to offer to field questions one at a time privately when it's been stated that it's been answered here and that's the answer a PM would get (i.e. not much point PMing then either).

For me this isn't any sort of a value judgment on anyone. What I may see as illogical may make perfect sense to someone else. And that's okay. But when there is a perception that doesn't make sense, then human tendency is to question. This thread is those questions...repeated when the answers still don't satisfy.

Again, just looking at the overall picture. Ewok knows what he has to do and in what order he wants to do it, which is completely his perogative. For some that explanation may satisfy and for others it doesn't. It seems to me that the longer it takes, the more some may question. Maybe that might change Ewok's prioritization and maybe it won't. *shrugs* I dunno!

  6. While I agree that the censoring of the URL should be lifted, I don't agree with many of the posts in here. I own several websites of my own, including one message board. I did have 3 message boards at one time. If the members had posted this kind of ####### on my board, I would have shut the damn thing down just to show them who REALLY has control over the board. It's not a power thing - it's a "don't you dare tell me what to do with my own damn board" thing. If I can't feel comfortable on my own message board, it'll go bye bye or the entire member list will be deleted and I'll start all over.

Don't be surprised if continually berating Ewok ends up producing the same result.

I believe Ewok to be way more fair than to display such a trip. I DO fear he will give up on all of us due to the attempt by some members to "out" an issue. If it not resolved yet, it is not resolved yet. If the block is lifted, then it is because Ewok feels appropriate to do so. Members can be upset about a confusing situation, but asking the same questions again and again is really only driving the sore spot more. Try to be fair.

    i (L) Ewok AND AW

I think some people think Ewok is super human or something

    I don't think that's it at all.

From a basic time management perspective, if 5 people have a question, answering them all at once is more time effective than answering each individually. If the issue has been that Ewok has been busy with various activities (as we all get, and justifiably so), then answering those 5 (or 20 or 30 or whatever) people in one place, fully and completely, is much more time effective.

I manage 6 people. I have team meetings, not one-on-one sessions. Spend one hour instead of six. It's basic. I will also say that there are times that having six one-on-one meetings makes more sense. I don't think this is one of those occasions.

ETA: What I'm trying to say is that what I keep reading in these posts is that the answer "I haven't had time" along with the invitation to PM Ewok directly seems to be in direct conflict with each other concept-wise. I was trying to explain why it doesn't for me...based on my own experiences. Just wanted to be clear. :)

However, most of it matters not. It's Ewok's site and what he says goes. Not much to be done but decide if that's the community one wants to be in. For some it works, for others, maybe not so much.

  7. Dang, tried to edit and it crashed:

ETA: As for the questioning around the 'business' aspect of these two sites, then I guess what would need to be looked at is how each handles every other site out there. As has been mentioned, posting links to pertinent immigration information hasn't been blocked by either site until now, and one way. I'm not commenting on the right- or wrong-ness of it, just stating. And I guess some of the confusion comes from the FBI site being unblocked for a brief period of time and now back to being blocked. I don't know why...but for people sincerely trying to connect people in need with information, it's a bit frustrating.

Oh, and Uling, PM is also blocked for this website. So that's not an option. The person who may need the additional information won't get it that way either.

By the by, I believe all of the links that have been attempted to be posted are to member comments in threads which are free to use, not to the guide for purchase. For whatever that's worth to inquiring minds, bearing in mind it's speculation on my part.

  8. I am having trouble understanding the uproar over their link being "blocked" here, especially when the website in question is also BUSINESS selling a research e-book and within IT'S own rules for members has this...
"Advertising - Threads/posts/signatures etc blatantly advertising a business website outside of the designated 'Members Businesses' Forum is not permitted and shall be removed. Abuse of this rule will result in the account being banned....."

Aside from that and the whole " did she say to Ewok she was affiliated with the site or not" discussion-which I believe Ewok was trying to open lines of communication about with her-I personally don't care how many immigration boards are out there-and honestly, sincere KUDOS to AW for that site.

There is a designated forum for member advertising of their home business or other ventures on that site, and not in signatures or in general information threads (or even off topic). That quote reads to me exactly that...anything blatantly advertising outside of that particular forum will be moved to that forum and if a member repeatedly posts in what the admin deems inappropriate places, then it could result in a ban. Not so much different from here in that regard (organizers, threads being moved, etc.). If it helps, signatures there aren't an 'anything goes' type of deal and this is part of that.

  9. I can't even reply to this I'm so floored by the double talk.

Ewok I've SEEN the email from the FBI admin to you asking for more information. The only reply was to sanction Lorelle's account.

Lorelle may not be the owner of the board. It may be owned by someone else and she's admining it. You should know how that goes, as you're the admin here, not the owner, right? (Which is how it was described to the membership when Wookie handed it over to you to run on a day to day basis.)

As for the blood sweat and tears, a good chunk of those are from Lorelle. I guess I'd hoped you would have tried a little harder to rectify the "miscommuncation" if only out of regard for the amount of time and energy she's put into this place. A single email? A single PM? No other entreaties? No other specifics? I guess you can make the decision pretty quickly. So can the rest of the membership, however they decide.

I'm saddened at the thinly veiled attempt to mar her character with this. I have no dog in this race, I just hate seeing people treated like #######.

    Oh well.

ETA: Well I guess I could reply. Go figure.

  10. I must be older too. I brought 4 cans of the Bird's custard and had my sis bring me down some HP sauce about 3 weeks after I moved.

Also on my list are muscle relaxants. I think we're finally getting to go back in June! It'll be just shy of 2 years that I've been back! :)

I am older so my list is different:

    Rogers Golden Syrup

    Sultana Raisins for butter tarts

Bird's Eye Custard for Nanimo Bars

    Pickled Onions

    HP Sauce

    Frozen 5 Alive juice

    Pork tenderloin

    Shirriff's Lemon Pie filling

    Gripe Water

Tylenol and cough syrup with codine from behind the pharmacy counter without a RX

    KFC tastes different there

and for chips and gravy buy a deep fat fryer and use home made turkey gravy it is just about the same.

However, the USA has many products that Canadians can learn to enjoy once there; and more importantly we will be with the one we love - priceless!

Our local Safeway and Fred Meyers both carry Canola Harvest margarine and oils. Which was good because I discovered that I really don't like the taste of margarine that isn't canola-based. :)

-Clamato juice - if you can find it in the US it will be in a teeny bottle and doesn't taste as good

-Imperial margarine - I hate the margarine in the US - it doesn't melt on your toast and if it does it makes it super soggy

    - Canola oil - can be found in the US but not very well known. The US is starting to clue in to it being a non-trans fat thing, but I saw an episode of Martha Stewart one day where her recipe called for canola oil and her and her guest didn't really know what it was. The Canadian Canola growers association e-mailed her to set her straight. Although there are probably lots of Canadians that don't know what canola is either.

  11. HI!

My husband and stepsons just received their interview letters yesterday! June 27, 10:00am! I hope that is the end of it!

One question... My husband and his sons don't have passports. They are Canadian citizens and have never needed them to enter the US. The NOA letter for the interview says to bring passports. Will they be denied without a passport? Have any Canadians been to the interview and not had passports?

Maybe they should apply TODAY to get them!

    Any advice would help!

    Thanks,

    J

What did they use to provide his TN visa? I would have thought that a passport would have been required for that.

As for your questions, I haven't got a clue. :) For most of the visas people here obtain, the passport is where the visa is physically placed; usually the problem is a passport that's expiring.

I suspect that you would want to set up an Infopass appointment and ask that question directly to the people that would know. You could also have a wander to the Canada forum here on this board to find a thread with links to renewing a Canadian passport from the US...that would be a good resource in Canada to ask. They might be able to expedite passports for all of your Canadian family prior to interview.

    Best of luck!

  12. I have a taxation question I'm going to eventually need info on.

At present I collect a pension from a compnay I worked 30 yrs for. It's direct deposited monthly into my bank acct. in Canada.

How is receiving this going to work when I move State side? Will I be able to leave it as is going into my acct. in Canada and at yrs. end file Can. income taxes?

Or is it going to be mandatory that I shift it to a bank here and then claim US income tax on it. Also if I left it as is being deposited in Canada would I have to claim it as foreign income.

Any info. or advice on how this works would be appreciated

Here's a thread on pensions in general. Company pensions are usually treated in the same way as any foreign income (taxed 25% non-resident tax in Canada and you must declare it on your US taxes); however, check with the group holding your pension account and find out what they have to say.

  13. ...and the 4th cat who likes being brushed actually rolled over and bared his tummy for this. He never does that.

So yeah, this is definitely 2 thumbs up here (or 4 paws).

  14. Also worked like a dream here. Actually have brushed all the cats except the one that likes brushing the most, so we're calling it money well spent.

    Thanks for the tip!

  15. I bought one of these at lunch. T minus 4 hours until testing on our 4 shedding monsters.

Thanks, Bethanie, on the extra info so we don't hurt them. :)

Tip: (oops, just read Bethanie's tip): do what Bethanie says, and short strokes work better than long, body length ones. Go gentle till you see if they'll bear it.

The video thingie they have for it shows the groomer just raking mounds of hair out.. it might not look that way with yours, but it's working. :)

PS: did you buy BandAids at the store, too?

All duly noted. Fortunately 3 of the 4 cats tolerate brushing well and the other, well, there's two of us and he's all whine and wimp.

Maybe I'll get hubby to watch the video while I corral the wee beasties. ;)

No bandaids. We always have a great supply of those (I'm very accident prone...haha)

  16. I love beans on toast.

So do I. My hubby thinks it sounds awful. Little does he know the power of the bean. ;)

Have you introduced him to the huge difference between the British and American baked bean?

I mean, I can't imagine having American Style beans on toast, although I like them in other contexts. My wife loves Heinz Beans on Toast, with grated mature cheddar on top. Oh so good.

    Hugh Grant what?

Oh yeah, beans on toast with cheese...mmmmmm. The nearest to a British baked bean that I have found is Kroger's Vegetarian beans. Very very close. I couldn't imagine having American baked beans on toast. Ick!

I love beans on toast. It was only when I mentioned them to hubby that I realized they were a UK-influence in Canada, not a US one.

I've never had them with cheese. I'll have to try that.
