  1. On the G-325A (Biographic Information form), what should my SO put for city & country of birth. The birth certificate lists the province, but that province has since split into 2 with 2 new names. Should she use what is on the certificate or the new name? Actually she was born in Nha Trang, which is listed as the "Quan" on her certificate not the city. Should she put that? Anyone else born in Nha Trang that has had experience with that?

Also, does the G-325A need to be an original signature or can that form be e-mailed over to me. She already sent everything but left a gap in her employment history without explaining it.

Also does anyone know what we are supposed to do if we run out of spaces for the employment history? And I assume the 'last occupation abroad' question refers to abroad from the US, not abroad from her home country?

Finally, I think, on the main form where it asks for details of how we met, do they want to know how we were introduced or about the time when we actually met in person? How detailed should we be on this question?

Oh no, I do have another question, not VN specific, but on the main application it wants the "date of issue" on my birth certificate. I recently ordered a copy of it since I had lost it. Do I use the date of issue of the certified copy or the original date when it was signed back when I was a baby?

  2. Jerome, I won't be coming myself anytime soon, but work in a Vietnamese church and people go back all the time. If they think it's for me, they'd be willing to carry something small. Just had someone leave Wednesday; don't know when the next one will be, but it's probably soonish. I'll try to let you know if you haven't gotten your stuff yet. Are you suggesting though that in all those fancy new shops in TPHCM nobody has vanilla extract? Let me see what I can find out for you on that too... my fiancee is a baker you know... (which isn't gonna be good for my weight.)

Jim, What you're saying is so sad but true. I know lots of people who love going back, but just can't because of the whole money thing. Meanwhile, by now their relatives are living over there better than they are. In the past, there was nothing at 'home,' but now there is opportunity in VN and people need to seize it. I knew one guy who was quite successful over here and had a policy that he never gave his family money, but he helped them set up businesses, etc. Worked out better for both of them in the end.

One of my friends from church went around SE Asia doing mission concerts this year. They stopped in Hanoi just for a break. His family lives just outside of Hanoi, but he didn't even go to visit them b/c it would have cost more than the whole rest of the trip.

On a final note, I brought my fiancee some expensive perfume... but also told her not to get used to it, b/c regular American people can't afford to wear that... we can only afford to buy it once in a while to bring it back to VN as a gift. :-)

  3. The sponsorship papers are filled after the the petition for the K-1 visa has been approved. A letter will be sent to your fiance in which they will have to gather there medical papers and other items needed, you will then have to send the sponsorship forms. If you have no income you must still be the primary sponsor and can use any properties or other items as a means to show support. You may also want to get a co-sponsor to assist you if you do not have the means yet. The co-sponsor will need to have proof of employment, pay stubs and taxes for at least the past 3 years. I do not know when would be best to begin the filing of the K-1 visa, it depends. I hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Does anyone know about the bankruptcy question?

  4. I am ready to fill out the K-1 visa form. However, as of this moment, I am unemployed. I will find a job within the next few weeks. Does the support form get sent in with the original application or does it follow later?

Also, I am about to file bankruptcy. Any advice on whether I should do the application before, during, or after the bankruptcy?

    Thanks,

    Bao
