  1. Thank you. Yes, I just called them and they said to bring in the I-797C (which is the NOA1 i think)... and also told me there is a $50 fee for the extension. Can you believe it? She had to pay for the full # of years of the license in the first place and then she has to pay $50 to extend it and it still won't be for as long as a citizens would be for the original price she paid. (Of course there is no mention of this bogus fee anywhere on their fee list on the website--even with the non-citizen information.)

  2. How big of a problem is it if we have separate bank accounts? I have debts, including a judgment that hasn't been paid yet, so if I put my name on her account they can take it. We do have one joint credit card (or at least a card on which I'm an authorized user). We also have the other joint stuff... health insurance, lease, she's the beneficiary on my life insurance policy and 401k. Would it help to join the bank accounts now or would it look like we did it just to get approved. Should I send a letter explaining the reason for the separate bank accounts? Will it help to show significant, frequent transfers between our accounts?

  3. anhdoiem, apparently a big part of the problem is that there is all new leadership at this univ as a response to previous corruption. they are unwilling to certify or validate degrees given under the previous corrupt administration.

    anyone else have any ideas?

  4. I'm wondering if anyone here has run into a similar problem and has found a way around it. My wife earned her degree in English Education from the HCM City University of Education. However, we have two issues:

    1. Demonstrating that she did student teaching

    2. She has lost the degree certificate itself (the booklet kind)

She has her transcript, which apparently, they only issue once and that's it. So, I guess the first question is whether anyone has ever had trouble having the transcript accepted, since it isn't being sent directly from the school.

The school says they can't re-issue the degree certificate or anything confirming she earned a degree from the school. Seems ridiculous to me, but then again, I'm getting used to things that don't make sense.

So, is she out of luck? Or is there something we might could do?

  5. Last year when MyTam went through the process, we had trouble getting it from Cambodia when she lived there. Good news was Cambodia was on the list of countries that don't require it, but when she went for the interview, she got a blue slip asking for it anyway. Apparently, things had changed.

  6. We got the email 2 days ago that my wife's work auth we sent with the aos was approved. It said it could take us up to 30 days to receive it. I'm wondering if anyone could share their experience on how long it actually took to receive it after getting the notification.

Also once she gets whatever they send can she go get a job immediately or does she need to go apply for a social security card separately or something first?

The thing is there's currently a job opening in our area for what she wants to do and she wants to figure out ic she will be able to apply or not.

  7. How is that? Just think about it they give you 90 days in order to get married. So are you telling me if you marry on day 90 and they don't receive the AOS by that same day she will get deported. I don't think so. See the USCIS link below, which states if you do not marry within 90 days you are removeable from the United States. If you are married it says to file AOS as soon as possible.

    http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=fcf75b836ea73210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=3d7fa6c515083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD

I looked on that page and it says "as soon as you marry" it doesn't say anything about as soon as possible.

  8. So I'm really slow and lazy on filing tax returns. I haven't filed 2009 yet and I don't see any way I can do it in the next few days.

I've just discovered that for the Affidavit of Support with the AOS, you need to have already filed the taxes for the last 3 years.

She arrived on 1/25 on a K-1 So her 90 days are up 4/23. We are already married--just not yet ready to file the form. My questions are:

    * Can I have a co-sponsor to qualify without myself actually having to file the taxes for that year?

    * Can I leave that spot blank and get an RFE but at least she's ok b/c we filed the form in time?

    * What do they count date-wise. Like do they have to receive it by 4/23, process by 4/23, does it have to be postmarked by 4/23? If they send me the whole packet back like they did with I-129F and they don't get it back after 4/23 do we have trouble?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  9. Apparently the tracking number is useless since at least for us it showed nothing and then she told me it was delivered. I guess right in hcm it's the same day it's ready so never really gets much time in the system. They had told her there was a number you could text for updates but she tried a few times with no response. But as long as it gets there safely tracking isn't so important.
