Yeah, I checked. She's an insured driver on the auto. But on the Renter's Insurance, she's not listed. I guess we could just leave that one off. Not everyone has renter's insurance.
-
Yes, I'll have the taxes. Even though I haven't actually filed this year's yet! That's this weekend. On the auto insurance, I wish they would put both of our names, but what they told me when I asked was that it automatically covers the spouse so they don't put her.
-
Thank you. Yes, I just called them and they said to bring in the I-797C (which is the NOA1 i think)... and also told me there is a $50 fee for the extension. Can you believe it? She had to pay for the full # of years of the license in the first place and then she has to pay $50 to extend it and it still won't be for as long as a citizens would be for the original price she paid. (Of course there is no mention of this bogus fee anywhere on their fee list on the website--even with the non-citizen information.)

How big of a problem is it if we have separate bank accounts? I have debts, including a judgment that hasn't been paid yet, so if I put my name on her account they can take it. We do have one joint credit card (or at least a card on which I'm an authorized user). We also have the other joint stuff... health insurance, lease, she's the beneficiary on my life insurance policy and 401k. Would it help to join the bank accounts now or would it look like we did it just to get approved. Should I send a letter explaining the reason for the separate bank accounts? Will it help to show significant, frequent transfers between our accounts?

My issue is not that. My issue is that she wants to be able to drive and I'm starting to think her license will expire and they won't let her renew until her I-751 is approved.
-
We will be filing the I-751 this weekend for GC expiring in November. However, state of GA has her driver's license expiring on the same day as the GC. Does anyone have any experience with this?
-
Yes.
I did try to go the website for the company you PM'd me and there wasn't anything there.

anhdoiem, apparently a big part of the problem is that there is all new leadership at this univ as a response to previous corruption. they are unwilling to certify or validate degrees given under the previous corrupt administration.
anyone else have any ideas?

Aren't K-1 visas nonimmigrant? So, would they have gone through this nonimmigrant department? Do we need to find out who our CO was to get ready to prove that we didn't pay anything?

I'm wondering if anyone here has run into a similar problem and has found a way around it. My wife earned her degree in English Education from the HCM City University of Education. However, we have two issues:
1. Demonstrating that she did student teaching
2. She has lost the degree certificate itself (the booklet kind)
She has her transcript, which apparently, they only issue once and that's it. So, I guess the first question is whether anyone has ever had trouble having the transcript accepted, since it isn't being sent directly from the school.
The school says they can't re-issue the degree certificate or anything confirming she earned a degree from the school. Seems ridiculous to me, but then again, I'm getting used to things that don't make sense.
So, is she out of luck? Or is there something we might could do?

It may cause a delay if you get an RFE, but there's no way it can actually affect the outcome, because it's after the date you sent it in. I mean, even the USCIS and the consulate can figure out that you didn't meet in the future.

Last year when MyTam went through the process, we had trouble getting it from Cambodia when she lived there. Good news was Cambodia was on the list of countries that don't require it, but when she went for the interview, she got a blue slip asking for it anyway. Apparently, things had changed.

Stay in the city. There are no mosquitos--they spray for them. Of course it comes down to personal choice. However, I think the biggest issue might be that once you've put down roots here, will you have children & grandchildren in the US that you want to leave?

with some coffee money, nothing can't be resolved in Vietnam.
May be true, but the price of coffee seems to get higher and higher.

We were transferred to CSC in early June and can't even look up estimated times for I-485 based on family at CSC. I called a few weeks ago for an update and they said I'd hear from someone. Then today I got an email that basically says, we got your request for an update, we're working as fast as we can with limited resources... no info at all!
-
Congrats Kum30 !
We are still waiting, applied on april and transferred to CSC on early June ! This is Crazy !!
We're in the exact same boat: applied in April and transferred in June. And you can't even look up times for CSC for I-485 based on family.

We got the email 2 days ago that my wife's work auth we sent with the aos was approved. It said it could take us up to 30 days to receive it. I'm wondering if anyone could share their experience on how long it actually took to receive it after getting the notification.
Also once she gets whatever they send can she go get a job immediately or does she need to go apply for a social security card separately or something first?
The thing is there's currently a job opening in our area for what she wants to do and she wants to figure out ic she will be able to apply or not.

Actually her 90 days is up Monday and I can mail it on Monday. So there is no penalty or anything for them getting it late? Is it just that we have to make sure we have something showing we have sent it until they acknowledge receipt?
Just want to make sure that by mailing it Monday im not putting us into the position of extra paperwork and/or extra fees.
-
How is that? Just think about it they give you 90 days in order to get married. So are you telling me if you marry on day 90 and they don't receive the AOS by that same day she will get deported. I don't think so. See the USCIS link below, which states if you do not marry within 90 days you are removeable from the United States. If you are married it says to file AOS as soon as possible.
I looked on that page and it says "as soon as you marry" it doesn't say anything about as soon as possible.
-
You met the Requirements of the K-1 Visa and its purpose. There is no hurry about AOS. Remember, the K-1 Visa is to get married within 90 days. You met the requirement of that Visa. The AOS can wait.
So between now and filing will she be out of status? can she be deported? will it cause problems when we do go to file later?
-
She entered on 1/25. We did get married on 3/10 so it's within the 90 days. But we don't have all the paperwork done to file the i-485 AOS in time. How long can she stay legitimately on the K-1?
-
So I'm really slow and lazy on filing tax returns. I haven't filed 2009 yet and I don't see any way I can do it in the next few days.
I've just discovered that for the Affidavit of Support with the AOS, you need to have already filed the taxes for the last 3 years.
She arrived on 1/25 on a K-1 So her 90 days are up 4/23. We are already married--just not yet ready to file the form. My questions are:
* Can I have a co-sponsor to qualify without myself actually having to file the taxes for that year?
* Can I leave that spot blank and get an RFE but at least she's ok b/c we filed the form in time?
* What do they count date-wise. Like do they have to receive it by 4/23, process by 4/23, does it have to be postmarked by 4/23? If they send me the whole packet back like they did with I-129F and they don't get it back after 4/23 do we have trouble?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve

Haha, and here I thought it was just someone making good humor. Congrats man!

Apparently the tracking number is useless since at least for us it showed nothing and then she told me it was delivered. I guess right in hcm it's the same day it's ready so never really gets much time in the system. They had told her there was a number you could text for updates but she tried a few times with no response. But as long as it gets there safely tracking isn't so important.

Yeah I'm perfectly fine with it expiring early as long as they don't tack on a bogus fee.
