I included a copy of my discharge papers. The U.S. government often gives preferential treatment to veterans, so I figured it couldn't hurt. I two-hole punched everything when done. Not sure what else it could be.

I had a well-organized presentation using a cover letter based on what this website offered, followed by numbered tabs and the required documents. For my photos I used a one-page collage of 12 photos from a few trips, followed by a legend that described the date and location of each photo. I'm a U.S. military veteran who was honorably discharged with a few awards, so...

If I have some time I'll post some redacted stuff from my petition. One idea that was a bit different from the usual advice on photos was that I created a one-page collage of photos from 3 different trips, followed by a legend with the date and location of each photo.
