  1. No, that's the notification that I'm waiting for; that they actually received it, but I didn't. I know the NOA1 takes a few weeks, but I am still waiting for them to notify me that they at least received the packet. Don't they send an email or text telling us that they got it? Not approved it but received it?

Oh, you're talking about USPS, They usually give you a receipt with a tracking number? because that's what I did, I just tracked it online. I thought you were talking about uscis. lol. My bad -- Anyway you have to check your receipt or something and check online.

And yes, they it was signed for by someone in about 3 days. and if I remember correctly, I just used priority mail with confirmation receipt.

  2. Don't worry, it can take as long as a few weeks to receive a Notice of Action. There are quite a few people here on VJ that waited 30 days or more. They receive thousands of applications so it's understandable that everyone's application can't be accepted in a few days.

I agree with Missicy :) mine took atleast 8 days to get a notification from uscis. Tell you what though, my first application was sent back to me 10 days after because my hubby signed on the wrong line! I know crazy right? But that's how intense these people are So hopefully you double, triple checked everything before you sent it out... Not saying it will happen to you but it's one of those things that you never expect to happen... :)

Just wait... You'll receive the texts and emails before you know it!

Btw, did you ever get a confirmation that they received the packet?

  3. So i got my EAD a week ago, and went to my local SSN office to apply for a SSN, as my hubby can not file his taxes without that, as he claimed me as his dependant. While at the local office the lady told me she can not "verify" my information, and i have to call on friday. Now it's friday and i called and the lady there told me i need to go there personaly, so i told her i can not as my hubby can not leave work, and i have no way of getting there. Then she asked me some questions for security purpose, and then she told me my information was not verified yet, and that i should check back in. So i asked her when??, and she said she doesn't know ...whenever they will verify it with homeland security dept. So who knows it could be this year, if i'm lucky.

Did any of you encounter this issue while getting your ssn? Is it normal?

    Tx again like always,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having a hard time with SS, You shouldn't be having troubles unless you had bad history... When you're husband is free go to your local SS office right away to fix the problem...

Anyway, just to let you know, My husband tried to claim me as a dependant when he filed for his taxes, but apparently, they cannot claim spouses as a dependant... only Parents or Child, although BOTH of you could file jointly and that should add something on your hubby's tax return.

  4. Congratulations you already passed your interview!! I just want to ask what documents did you present on the IO on your interview to prove your marriage? What are the questions asked? We will be having our interview on Feb. 3 and I am freaking out because we only have little documents with both our names including our health insurance and me as his beneficiary and as dependent in his 401k. We got married last September and the bank cannot process our joint account because I still don't have an ID with my married name except for my EAD. The bank didn't honor my EAD as an Identification and my state ID is still on process on the DMV. i hope you can help me. Thank you in advance. :)

    Hi cucha!

the docs we gave the IO was bank statement both in our name and my hubby just filed his taxes including my name so we gave that one also. Pictures of our wedding and pictures with family and friends... and ofcourse the most important thing, the marriage certificate! ;)

I dont know why they wouldnt allow you have your married name. My hubby and I tried in BA and that was before I got my SS and EAD, they just needed my passport and our marriage certificate and they changed my maiden name to my married name. Try BA, some states are lenient as long as you have your passport.

If you need any other information just send me a message!!! Good luck on your journey! ;)

    congratulations on your approval,

    Thanks kelly!! ;)

Yep thats him!!! We had the same officer!!! That is soooo cool!

I was too excited I didnt even pay attention when he was introducing himself! Im such a dork, I remember my hubby asked his name before we left, I thought I heard wormer or warmer. and also for some reason I never looked around I was just focused on looking at my Husband and interviewer back and forth! lol

Mind you, he also told us that he went through all this process and it was hard because it took him 1 yr and 9 months to get his greencard but now he's a naturalized citizen... ;)

I think his name was Officer Warmer? sounded like that... Cute, chubby curled hair guy! hehe

Yeah They stapled it on my Passport but I removed it because it was annoying me sticking out from the passport! lol so I put it somewhere else! silly me!

  8. Hello Everyone,

    Just want to share my experience about how my interview went today;

Our interview is scheduled for 11am. We were at the field office about 10.45 and was seated at the lobby at exactly 11am. in about 5 minutes my name was called by the officer conducting the interview. He was very nice! (Lucky us!) Before we sat down, He had us sworn to tell the truth nothing but the truth. Then we were seated and started the interview.

First, he explained as to what this interview is for then he asked questions after.

IO: Before I start asking you questions, I will need your passport and your I-94.

Me: I was freaking out because I forgot where I put my orignal I-94 but then the IO prolly saw me getting nervous so he said, (It's okay, it's not a huge thing I have a copy in my file, If you don't have it, don't worry about it.) I found it after digging through our recent boarding passes and everything! Thank goodness! LOL

IO: Were you married before you came here?

Me: Yes, We were married before we came here.

IO: Do you have any proofs like, Insurance, Tax forms or any financial statement or pictures? (We handed it to him and he went and photo copied the documents we gave him)

IO: So, where did you guys meet?

    Hubby: We met online

    Me: I nodded and smiled.

IO: of course, that's very common nowadays.. (with a smile on the face) :)

IO: Which website did you guys meet? (still with a smile on the face) :)

    Hubby: Myspace :)

IO: Oh okay, that's good. So when did you start talking on phone? or do you use any other type of messenger?

Me: Yes, We used skype mostly and Yahoo.

Hubby: yeah, it's cheaper to use skype.

IO: That's true! everyone likes skype. haha.

IO: So how long did it take for you guys to meet in person?

    Hubby: About 6 Months...

Me: Yes, cause I came here to visit him for a week in August 2009.

    IO: Okay, That's good.

IO: Now I'm going to ask you questions about your I-485. (He confirmed if my name and address were correct on my I-485 form, He also asked me general questions about terrorism and felony and all that stuff.

IO: Sounds good, well you are already approved. because I approved you, obviously. (still smiling)

IO: You should get your Greencard in about 2-5 weeks or less...

The IO was very nice and explained everything about being a resident.. he also explained that he will be giving me a 2 year conditional status as we are married for less than 2 years. Than we would have to renes after 2 years and get the greencard changed to unconditional status. My husband, him and I talked and talked about a lot of things like culture and driving and how to become a citizen and all that.. .. All in all it was a very easy interview and it lasted for about 30mins. He congratulated us and shakes our hands and as we walked out of the office I let out a slight yell saying (WOOOHOO!!) I know! I am such a dork, the IO just smiled and typed away on his keyboard!

NO IMMIGRATION TILL 2013!!!! YAY!! :)

Im wishing everyone the best of luck! God never stop answering prayers,God is good all the time! May god bless you all! (L) (L) (L)

    Cheers!!!!!!!!! :D

  10. It's possible to do couple of things without SSN:

You can try Bank of America - I opened an account in New Jersey when I was just visiting and they only asked for my passport to open a Campus Edging Account. It's free and it has 5 yrs expiration.

I came back here again then next year, this time in Florida and opened a new account with my husband (Without SSN) as long as they have my passport, its fine.

If you want to use your married name you can show them your marriage certificate.

    Regarding Phones:

you can buy a phone worth (60$) in Walmart and it has plan rates. Go to AT&T if you know someone who have an at&t line, he/she can add that new phone on their bill.

This is what me and my hubby did when I was here without SSN.

    Hope it helps.

  11. It seems like the problem with BOA isn't the lack of a Social Security number/card, it's that you aren't there in person. We added my husband to our accounts before he was here, but we had to show his passport and some other paperwork. It definitely had to be done in person. I believe they have cracked down on this in the past few years (four or five, maybe?), so that may be where you are running into problems. Thus, some of the other banks here may still have the same conditions--you can be added without a Social if you are there in person.

I agree. Silly me didn't realize you're not in the country yet. Being there personally is a big factor.

That is exactly what we did when we had to open a new account in both our names... I just showed my passport and marriage certificate and of course I was there in person...doesn't matter without an SSN as long as you have government issued ID.

PS: Marriage certificate was needed when we specifically requested to put my married name instead of my maiden name. :)

It is a standard procedure, all banks has same rules, if you want to add somebody in your account he/she should be there in person.

But you can always try... Who knows.. right?

    Good luck! (F)

  12. What are banks in US that will allow to enroll the spouse even without an SSN?

    Thanks guys!

Hi there! I hope it's not late but you can try Bank of America. I got a campus edging account with no SSN last yr when I was just visiting.

They just needed my passport... I got it for free and have 5 yrs expiration

    Try Bank of America! ;)
