This means that the person who is getting the new green card will have to go to an ASC to get their picture and fingerprints taken for an FBI background check. So if your ex-wife is the immigrant, then yes she will have to show up in person.

The appointment letter that you will recieve will have the adderss of the assigned ASC and the time. You can walk-in early and have the biometrics done as long as they have the time and you bring the appointment letter. If you fail to show up in person by the day of the appointed time your petition will be denied.

Here's a quote that has confused me on the I-751:

Biometric Services Appointment - After receiving your petition and ensuring completeness, USCIS will inform you in

writing when to go to your local USCIS Application Support Center (ASC) for your biometrics services appointment.

Failure to attend the biometrics services appointment may result in denial of your petition.

Does this mean that my ex-wife has to physically show up to a "local ASC" center for biometrics?

Is this mandatory in all I-751 applications? Where are these "local Application Support Centers"?

My wife had to have her prints taken twice. I think it is an asian thing. Her fingerprints are very shallow. No problems on the second try.

We just got the card production notice too. Also on Dec. 3. This phase was relatively painless. Only one more step to go.

Similar to what victorian221b said. Your receipt number on your NOA1 will not show up in their system. The receipt number on your biometrics appointment notice is what is formally assigned to your case file. I would also compare it to your denial notice as it may be different. Check all reciept numbers with the USCIS website.

As long as you and your wife are legit then the worst thing that can happen is that you will have to file an appeal and appear in front of an immigration judge to explain your situation. The judge will almost assuredly rule in your favor. While the burracrats at the USCIS my not understand the unexpected events that happen to real people, the immigration judge most likely will.

For now get a competent immigration lawyer (be careful, there are lots of really bad lawyers) and put aside some money for your subsequent immigration and legal fees.

Did you do a change of address during the wait?

When I got an RFE my receipt number is different from the original NOA. If I enter the NOA number on the website I get the same "case is not found" but when I entered the RFE receipt number the site was able to pull up the info. Your situation makes me want to call up USCIS sooner than the 60 days they require to wait after submitting RFE to check on the case.

Maybe that new number you got was your RFE number and it probably got sent to the wrong address. I would go with the immigration lawyer suggestion and get an appeal.

We did a walk-in to redo my wife's biometrics. The Tampa Field Office is always crazy busy. The wait was horrible, but I had already taken the time off work and got a baby sitter, so we had to deal with it. We got to the office at 8:05 am. The waiting room was packed. Finally at around 11 am her number was called. She told the man doing the finger printing that this was the second time we had to do this so please be careful. And he snaped at ther telling her that it is not their fault, its the FBI's fault they cannot read her finger prints. My thoughts were there has to be a reason they cannot read her finger prints. Hopefully this is the last time we have to deal with the Tampa Field Office for a while.

AAhh. Government efficency and attention to detail at its best! We have to redo our biometrics because my wife's fingerprints were not clear enough. It really makes me feel good about the government taking over the healtcare industry.

At least they were kind enough to not make me pay for it again. No word on if they will pay me for having to miss work.

Was your approval notice an I-797 or an I-797C.

We recieved an I-797C notice saying two things. One was that we were approved. The second was that our case was transfered to CSC. From what I can tell, the true intent behind the notice was to inform us that our case was transfered. The statement about our case bing approved is confusing and misleading.

I have always thought that the final approval should be an I-797. (no "C").

Add us to the list of those transfered to CSC.

Finally had the Biometrics. The Tampa Office was very busy. We arrived 5 min. early and had to wait for an hour. They skipped over our number so I had to bring it to their attention. Once my wife was called it took less than 3 min.

One more step complete.

It seems like we are the only ones who are not having our case file moved around to other offices.

Biometrics notice came in today. It seems a bit later than others here. I guess the Tampa Field Office must be fairly busy. I do not have the time to attempt an early walk-in. So I guess we are waiting it out.

How long does it take for the USCIS website to register a receipt number?

My I-751 NOA1 date was 8/20/13 and when I do a status check with the USCIS website, it tells me that there is no record of my receipt number.

NOA1 letter came in the mail today. No Biometrics yet.

The checks were cashed today (9 days after I sent the package in). Hopefully we will get the NOA1 sometime within the next 9 days. The trumatic memories of the VSC (Very Slow Center) from the K-1 days are all comming back to me.

We will be filing either late this month or early next month depending on when we recieve our soon to be born son's birth certificate.

We are getting ready to file for the removal of conditions and I have one quick question. For our evidence we will be submitting photocopies of our credit cards with the same account number as a part of showing co-mingling of finances. Should we blackout all but the last 4 digits of the card numbers, or should we show the entire number?

My wife has her green card in her married name and her passport in her maiden name. Does she have to get a new passport issued in her married name to travel abroad? Is it ok to have the maiden name on the passport as long as the plane ticket matches?

My wife got her green card on Friday!

AOS complete!. Had the interview today and got approved. Nothing more to do for 2 years.

The whole interview lasted about 30 min. They had everything we had submitted since the I-129F petition. Our file was assembled in the worng order by their processing office, but we had copies in the correct order for our own reference. The questions were simple, mostly verifying that our information was correct. The adjudicator looked through our wedding photos, and vacacion photos, and closely at our bank records and medical & dental insurance. Everything was good and she gave us the letter confirming my wife's legal permanent residend status. We should get the green card in about 2 weeks.

FYI for all of the people worried about EAD cards. Her EAD card arrived this past Saturday and we had to turn it in to the adjudicator at the interview. So she had the EAD card for a total of about 4 days.

No RFE's through the whole process from I-129F to green card.

Hey guys just wanted to update you guys...we had our AOS interview at 2:45 this afternoon and it lasted no more than 5 minutes. We were asked how did we meet where did we get married and who was there. The gentleman told us that he should receive his green card in 5 to 10 days. Very easy and we were very nervous but is was a breeze! Best of luck to everyone

I can only hope our interview goes as smoothly. Our interview is 1 week from today.

Got the notice in the mail on Monday. We have our AOS Interview scheduled for Oct. 26. That was much faster than I expected. Our EAD and AP applications are still in the initial review stage.

Now we have to hurry to gather the necessary evidence.

Completed the Biometrics today. We were in and out in 15 min, very easy. The appointment letter was stamped, signed and handed back to us. My wife thought they had given her a separate receipt but the stamped letter is all we have. Does anyone else who went through the Biometrics appointment know anything about a receipt?

I noticed a couple of my fellow September 2010 K1 filers in here with September 12 Biometrics appointments. That happens to be our day as well. It will be exactly 364 days from when I sent in the K-1 petition.

Has anyone else had any troubles opening a joint bank account with their forigen spouses? I do not know if it the the laws in Florida or what, but no bank will accecpt her passport with visa and stamped I-94 card along with ss card and marriage certificate as suffucent ID. It is like they are refusing to aknowlage her existence.

The mingling of financial assets and joint ownership of property is one thing that the AOS adjudicators look at, so I was hoping to get some things set up soon. I guess we will have to wait for her EAD card so she can get a driver's license to use as ID.

I guess we will join this thread. Filed on the 11th and got the NOA1's on the 17th. We are off and rolling.

Finally we are together. The POE in Washington D.C. Dulles airport was very quick and easy. Tomorrow we will go to the SS office to apply for her SSN. It has been a frustrating and slow process, but being together makes the rest of the process much less difficult.

I have one question for those who have also made it through the POE. Did the immigration officer attach the I-94 departure card to you spouse's passport? I though that is what was supposed to happen, but our officer just handed it to her loosely. Should I just go ahead and attach it myself? I am afraid of loosing it because it is so small.
