  1. NVC will assign an interview date first and then all the paperwork for the case gets sent to the consulate. Usually they send it a day or two after the interview date is scheduled. The consulate will not be contacting you at all. The last correspondence you should receive before your interview is package 4 from NVC with interview details.

Thanks Saylin! Is there anything other than waiting that can be done now till the interview date assignment?

  2. i would not worry about it... i also got an RFE for PCC but i actually got it and submitted it to NVC before my case was complete...

now u can take that RFE print out and get ur PCC done... thats what we had to do to... they wouldnt issue us a PCC without it...

and congrats on CC... now the wait is on for the interview date... im just 3 days ahead of u... lets see how close do they schedule us for an interview... good luck...

Thanks digital82. Now it does say that the case is complete at NVC when i call and listen to the AVR message. Also talked to an agent and she confirmed that its complete and need to wait for interview date. I am hoping we get early July. How long does it take for the NVC to send the paperwork to the Consulate? Does the consulate contact you prior to the interview date being set?

  3. I called NVC on Friday 5/20/11 and was told that my case was complete and waiting to be assigned a Interview date. I also got a SIF starting on Friday morning. However, today I received an email RFE that my Police Clearance certificate was missing. In my DS-230 submission I had mentioned that PCC is generally available only after IV approval (from my wife's passport office in India) and my wife will be bringing that to the interview. I was told by three different operators over a one week period that this was OK. Should I call them and have them reconsider? Should I email them the response? Has anyone else gone through this situation?

  4. Thanks Saylin for the prompt reply! I will keep calling them everyday.

Since you just submitted the DS-230 packet today, you should have your case complete, if no RFEs, in about 2-3 weeks. Until then, just keep calling NVC and asking about any updates. That's all you can do at this point.

And about interviews only being scheduled during the second week, well, it's a LIE. Please look at my own signature as proof. I had my interview scheduled during the FOURTH week of the month. The operators just read from a script, probably to deter people from calling every day. Didn't work on me though laughing.gif

  5. Hello Folks, I just submitted my wife's DS-230 package today by Express mail. Last week NVC received my AOS packet, although it does not show in their system when I asked couple of operators (today and last week). All they tell me is to wait 20 days before they can tell me anything. I included all the appropriate documents with both the AOS packet and the DS-230 packet. Is there anything else that I should be doing in the meanwhile other than waiting? I paid both the fees online and printed the bar coded cover sheets and included with the packets. Other than that I did not receive anything else from them. Any idea when I can expect any updates? I am really worried about when the interview will be scheduled as I have read it takes them a couple of weeks to enter the DS-230 in they system and they only schedule interviews around the second week of the month.. I hope we don't have to wait till next month to have interview scheduled.

  6. I got my case number today, they had the file from 4/20/11. I could sign in to the Payment portal but did not see the invoice. However as of a few minutes ago, I cannot sign in! It says that my case is not eligible for further processing by the National Visa Center! The customer service agent I spoke with this evening, said nothing of the sort. If anyone knows what is going on, please advise.

  7. I was just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this, but my marriage certificate is on an odd sized piece of paper and I was curious if I can scan part of the original and the photo copy the same way so that it will be missing bottom portion where the seal is. Will NVC accept this when e-mailing the IV package?

If there's another acceptable way to do this, please let me know :)

    Thank you in advance!

My marriage certificate is also on odd size paper. All I did was adjust the zoom setting in the photocopier to print it on Legal size paper. Kinko's or any such place will have a photocopier with this function.

  8. Yay!!!! smile.gif Finally got out approval Email and text today, almost five months. Thanks to everyone on these forums for info, updates and advise. Now onto NVC...

  10. My understanding after reading various posts here is that you can definitely get your husband's passport notarized in US if you have the original in hand. Alternately, you may consider what I did. I had my wife visit the US Consulate in Mumbai, India and get a photocopy of her passport certified by a Consular officer. Just today I visited local IRS Assistance center and they accepted her W7 and our joint tax returns. Generally the US consulate has a fee to certifiy the photocopy.

  11. From W7 instructions:

    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw7.pdf

Have the copies notarized by a U.S. notary public legally authorized within his or her local jurisdiction to certify that the document is a true copy of the original. To do this, the notary must see the valid, unaltered, original document and verify that the copy conforms to the original. Consular offices at U.S.Embassies and Consulates overseas may not certify true copies of foreign public documents and will refer applicants to the foreign authority that issued the document.

Have the copies notarized by a foreign notary. However, foreign notaries are only acceptable as outlined by the Hague Convention. The Hague Convention provides for the simplified certification of public (including notarized) documents to be used in countries that have joined the Convention. A certification will be issued in the form of an "apostille," which will be attached to the copy of the document. If the document originates in a country that is not party to the Convention, applicants should have the document certified by the foreign authority that issued it.

India is part of Hague Convention therefore, apostille is needed along with notary.

I just filed my taxes today (Married filing Jointly) at the local IRS center. They reviewed the forms and accepted it. I included a certified copy of my wife's passport certified by the US Consulate in Mumbai, India. You have to pay the US Consulate for certifying the photocopy of foreign passport. The IRS agent told me (and it is mentioned on IRS website, link below) that IRS accepts a certified copy of passport from consulates/embassies instead of locally notarized copy with apostille.

  13. After having a very bad day due to Pakistan losing to India in the semi-final of the cricket World Cup I get the only news that could cheer me up.

I got my NOA2 today, received text message about 20 minutes ago.

On to NVC and good luck to everyone else. Your time is coming as well.

  14. Hi everyone,

I'm the (USC), and my wife back in her country, she has a small business opened Jan last year for Physical therapy, with all expenses she didn't make no money last years. We got married at the end of last year also. I sent her W-7, she signed it and returned to me. I'm filling for my tax return now, and the tax preparer suggested if she didn't make any money we can put her as unemployed, honestly I didn't like the idea. I'm just worry if we do that, it may haunt me later in her interview and in other process.

In another note, the tax preparer said, I have to send the papers with W-7 to TX for federal then they will issue the ITEN, when I get that number that I can file for the state. Is this correct ?

Any body with the same situation, would you please advice, I really appreciate your help.

P.S: I have till Monday to send the papers to TX

    Thanks

I would suggest you check your state's income tax website for filing guideline especially regarding filing extension. For me, my state (Illinois) allows an automatic 6 months extension for filing taxes if you don't owe any state taxes. I am also in similar situation with regards to ITIN and what I was thinking of was to send a letter with my state returns saying that you have applied for your wife's ITIN and include a copy of the W7 form .
