  1. With the way the authorities are behaving about air travel and immigration, I don't think that conversation is too far off point. Just easier, in my opinion, to have the same name on all official documents. But, "up to you," as the saying goes.

I tend to agree with this view. If different names are used it could arouse suspicion.

It's really quite annoying the U.S. failure to adopt the rest of the worlds standards. Metric etc. I'm in telecom and I run into it all the time. The U.S. has a standard, the rest of the world uses an international standard that almost all countries follow.

Arrogance I guess. Look at the Susan B Anthony dollar. Could've saved the government some big money. No one would accept it. In Canada they just said this is the way it is. No more 1 or 2 dollar bills. They are coins now in Canada.

I do know that when you buy a DVD there are region codes. I've run in to that mess before buying a PAL formatted DVD and then trying to play it on a DVD player when the region codes don't match.

The development and implementation of three standards (PAL, NTSC, SECAM) had nothing to do with arrogance. All of them at the time of development offered different technical advantages.

In Thailand I have come across many TVs and DVD players that were capable of playing both PAL and NTSC. I've even bought a NTSC DVD (some movie) in Thailand at Mang Pong, and it played fine with my wife's ancient equipment. But if you want to be 100% sure, get in converted.

Region coding is a flawed system of maintaining different price points in different markets, and a is a form copyright protection.

  3. Morning Everyone!!

I just wanted to let you know that I went to the London Embassy yesterday and after just 40 minutes I was approved! I shall write a description of my experience later on today but I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone!! A few weeks time I shall be heading over to Hawaii to start a new life with my hubby to be!

Good Luck to everyone - it's def worth the wait to hear those great words "Your Approved"!!

    Gem :)

    Wow, great news!

  4. Well, I got SIF on Wednesday, and was hoping for the case complete email before the weekend. Perhaps it will come tonight. I just got off the phone with a operator, and she said the case is in final review. I asked an approximate time for case complete. She replied that they are not scheduling for May any longer, and could not be more specific than that. So, are they waiting for appointment times to be set aside by the embassy in Bangkok for June?

    Thanks

  5. I got an RFE several days ago, and I am getting ready to send the paperwork requested. I do have a question though. The NVC requested further documentation from both my co-sponsor and I. From me they requested a recent pay stub. Part of the RFE reads like this: In order to make corrections you will need to download a new form at www.ImmigrantVisas.state.gov. You will need to complete and submit a new form with the changes noted below. Really?? Both my co-sponsor and I have to submit new I-864s?

Please met me know that this is true and necessary.

    Thanks,

  6. Seems random: I just got off the phone with my wife. While she was there she met a girl going to Belgium. Previous to this visit the police certificate officers requested her to bring a letter from the Belgium embassy. Also, my wife was specifically asked for paperwork. I think they have different rules, perhaps, depending on the time of day.

Anyway, I'm just glad to be at this step in the process.

  7. Pui went to get her police report two weeks ago and they did not ask for any paperwork from her they just asked her what she needs it for. I had her bring the NOA2 and other documents but they were not asked for. I asked Pui yesterday if the report came in the mail yet and she said "No, I have to go back and pick it up". I thought they mailed it to her?

Maybe it depends who is sitting in the seat at the time, as to whether they ask for NOA2 etc. the officer my wife talked to complained to her that other people did not bring the proper documents. So, go figure. I'll ask my wife if they asked for the other documents. I think my wife specifically asked them to send it to her. They charged her 40 baht for EMS delivery.

  8. The wife went down to file for her police certificate the other day. The police officer was very pleased she had brought the NOA2. Apparently, many people do not bring a letter from the embassy or a NOA2. He told her either was required for a police certificate. Additionally, it will take two weeks to process the police certificate. I am hoping it won't be so long.
