not everyone may want (or be fit) to raise someone elses kids. kids are often abused physically and mentally by men who are dating their mom but resent them. thats why you see the stereotypical evil stepfather in so many movies.
and even if the man is willing, there is also the added expense. larger house, nanny, food, diapers, clothing, school, medical... the list is endless. its not something to jump into lightly.
