  1. Hi guys! My POE was August 2, 2011..which means my I-94 is good until October 31, 2011. We are getting married on October 15th, 2011..then it takes a week to get the marriage certificate. Which brings us to around October 26th. We are going to send the AOS papers in that day but I have read if we don't get them in before the I-94 expires than I will be out of status!? Should we go get our marriage license and do a courthouse Wedding to ensure the papers are in before October 31st?

It says on the back of my I-94 that I am only allowed in the country until October 31st and to stay past that date without permission from Homeland Security is a violation of the law. So confused!

  2. I have 2 dogs and a hamster moving to the States with me. Just want to make sure all I need for the dogs is proof that they have their rabies shots up to date. I never have them kenneled in the car is that going to be a problem at POE? and I've read a few posts that you don't need any papers to bring the hamster over. Can anyone verify that for me? I have a parrot that has to stay with my mom for a month or so while we file the permits just want to make sure I'm not going to have any problems with the rest of the zoo! Thanks!

  3. We waited close to 3 weeks before we got our interview date for May 25th of this year. Honestly once you get that date everything happens SOOO fast! The day we got the go ahead to book an interview my fiance was flying in so we waited until he got here to book..had a glass of wine in hand and when we saw the "no available appts at this time" we were so disappointed! Just keep on checking you will have a date before ya know it!

  4. Your K-1 petition was approved or your K-1 visa was approved.

They are two different things and if only the petition was approved you will not be moving to the USA yet. You still have all the rest of the process to do.

Sorry, the K-1 visa was approved in Montreal.

It matters what it says in your K1 visa in the passport. There's a date of when it's issued and when it expires. Any date in between is fine.

EXACTLY what I wanted to hear!!! Thanks!

  5. We had a 1:45pm time on May 16th and were not allowed in until 1:30pm. Were made to stand out in the rain waiting until the magic time.

I was just coming back to say the same thing! We had our interview on May 25th. Showed up at 11am and were told to come back for 1:30 as well. I think getting the 1:45 appointment really cut down the wait time for us. We were disappointed we couldn't do the back of the elevator trick! we were the only ones waiting for it. haha

  6. About one year ago I was denied an L1b visa. The company I work for had petitioned for me. A month after that I tried crossing to go shopping and they denied me entry for not having strong enough ties to Canada. Less than a week ago I had my interview for K1 visa in Montreal. The interview was less than 5 mins, she asked me if I had ever been denied entry to the states and I explained what happened, never even asked about the work visa denial. I was fretting the entire process over this too. As long as you never lied at POE and you didn't get denied the visa for fraud or false documents..stuff like that. You should be fine! She never said anything about taking a flag off though..maybe it's different because my petition got denied I never got to the intervew part. ONe thing I would do different if I could go back is really try to enjoy your last year in Canada and not fret so much over the process, it made me so miserable waiting this out and now that it's so close to leaving everyone I really wish I had a different outlook this entire time. Good luck and just make sure you answer yes to being denied entry and that you had been denied the visa before..everything will be fine!

  7. I went early and was allowed in, but I was made to wait in the waiting room until everyone with earlier appointment times had been taken care of.

Another poster said their fiance had a 1:45 interview time and was turned away at the door in the morning.

I would show up around 11, if I were you.

    Ok! Thanks!

  8. For the people who have had their interviews at 1:45pm. Have you guys had any problems showing up bright and early in the morning? We're trying to decide if we should go early or just wait until the afternoon.

  9. Sorry when I first made my post I should have specified that I'm a US citizen born and raised. This is basically just me "going back home" with my stuff. My husband is a Canadian citizen. He will be helping me drive down but then returning since he has to go back to work. He can get a letter from his employer proving his continued employment and we have a mortgage statement for the house up here we still own.

OHH! Sorry! I just didn't want anyone messing up like we did. I didn't even take my vacation in Florida like planned because I was too nervous to book the ticket and get denied entry again, I understand what you were saying now.

  10. Both the H1B and K1 applications ask somewhere if you have fiance relations with anyone in the US. I believe if you answer "yes" to this that the petition will get denied. I would just follow through with the K1. Check into it more but I know when my work filed the L1b petition for me that question came up.

  11. Hi1 If you haven't been approved for a visa I would not suggest bringing ANY household stuff over the border, they may think you are trying to work around the system. The company I work for petitioned for me to get a work visa and my fiance was brining about 8 boxes of my stuff over before we got an approval. He got sent back to Canada with all my stuff and now both him and I are "flagged" in the system. He gets pulled in every time he goes back to the States and I tried to go shopping once and got denied entry.

  12. MMR is a single dose vaccination. They don't break it down.

A titre test will tell you if you need a booster. You can have your GP do a titre test and give you the shots you need. Then bring a copy of the vaccination sheet from your doctor to the immigration medical so you do not have to pay extra 100s of $ for shots at the immigration medical.

Thanks for the info..my medical is on May 18th. probably won't have time to get the results back from that. I think it's only $60 to get an MMR shot at the medical. So if it comes down to it I'll just pay. I know it's just the one shot for all three but if anyone knows if you need a second vaccination as an adult for this medical I would love to know! I've been sick and on antibiotics so I'm not sure they will give me the MMR before it's time for my medical, I was planning on going to public health next week and getting it but I will still be on meds.

  13. Just called for my medical today since I got an interview this morning. They ask specifically when your interview is... So not so sure you can book prior to a for sure interview day.

    Sucks...

Curious which date you got for your interview?
