  1. Hi informative folks!

I just completed the oath ceremony on May 13, 2016. My son is 17 years old, turning 18 on Feb 2017.

Am I understanding correctly... that it is not neccessary to complete the N600 for him???

All I need to do is apply for his US Passport and Card with applicable documents?

What will happen if he turns 18+ and then requires the CoN?

Will he have trouble applying for it at any time after 18 if needed?

  2. Also, if your name on your passport is different than the name on your green card, take a copy of your marriage certificate with you (or anything that proves the name change). In case the CBP officer asks you about it, when you'll want to enter the US.

Thanks for this. I didn't even think of it (marriage cert.).

So basically, I can use my PR card to leave the USA right? And leaving Canada I would show my Canadian passport? Or can I use the PR card when leaving Canada? Still confused. ClockWatch2.gif

Canada has begun revoking citizenship from 3,100 people that the government said obtained it fraudulently, the country's immigration minister said Monday.

Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said that in most of the fraud cases, applicants paid a representative to prove they were living in Canada to establish residency when they were, in fact, living abroad.

Permanent residents must reside in Canada for three out of four consecutive years before applying for Canadian citizenship. To retain their status as permanent residents, they must live in Canada for two out of five years, with rare exceptions.

Criminal investigations by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Border Services Agency have found that a family of five could pay over $25,000 over four or more years to create the illusion of Canadian residence.

The government said it is also investigating thousands of others who may have lied to obtain or maintain permanent residency. Kenney said anyone caught committing fraud will be stripped of citizenship and residence status.

"Canadian citizenship is not for sale," Kenney said during a news conference Monday. "We will not stand idly by and allow people to lie and cheat their way into Canadian citizenship."

Kenney has said that Canada's per-capita immigration rate remains one of the highest in the world, with the country welcoming 248,660 permanent residents in 2011. An average of about 250,000 immigrants has been admitted to Canada annually since 2006, which the immigration department calls the highest sustained level of immigration in Canadian history.

The minister said a crack-down on immigration fraud started three years ago, with nearly 11,000 individuals potentially implicated in lying to apply for citizenship or maintain permanent resident status.

He said federal agencies have so far removed or denied admittance to more than 600 former permanent residents linked to the investigations.

Kenney also said he is planning to introduce amendments to the Citizenship Act that would require immigration consultants to be members of a regulatory body, which he said may help crack down on crooked consultants.

  4. Hi I don't know if anyone else is in the same boat as I am but first off I am canadian and have a residence in canada and I travel back and forth to canada from the usa for work and to see my family and I just got approved for my green card(should be in hand in a couple of days) I also have a nexus card which allows me to bypass the usual questions from the agents at customs, my question or questions are

    1) when I go back to canada do I fill out a declaration card as a visitor or a resident?

    2) If a resident of canada do I get the $750 allowance for more the 7 days away

    3) when I come back do I fill out the card as a visitor or a resident?

    4) if a resident do I get to claim $1000 allowance duty free

    5) can I be a resident in 2 countries at the same time?

I have a house in both countries and work in both countries

Although this is related to Tax filing, you may gain some insight from perusing this document and contacting them:

  5. Carribean men do not like arguing with women and a lot of times hanging up the phone is a way to get away from engaging in such behavior. You are pregnant so he will not tell you anything negative (like ending the relationship with you). Doing that could affect the baby. At this point you need to know your self worth and consider accepting things for the way they are and figure out an amicable way for you both to contribute to the child's well being. You obviously interpret this relationship as dysfunctional, therefore don't have high expectations on making it work. He is set in his ways and so are you!

If you want to continue with the immigration process, that's up to YOU. The ppl on this forum can not govern your heart for you. Reality is sometimes this is the outcome from a relationship that was not given a chance to develope. In life, we ultimately make our own decisions and sometimes the choices we make may affect us temporarily. Regardless, you are now carrying a life inside you, which some consider a blessing (I hope you do). All that's important right now is you and the unborn child. Relax, dont argue with him and find fulfillment in your life that can distract you from the BS.

Think about your future, in a way that won't bring you further disappointment. You'll be fine girl...

  6. The financial world checks credit to ensure you do not have uncontrollable dept, which may tempt and has been an issue relating to theft. The background checks screen for criminal records, stability and sometimes drug abuse. Get a prepaid credit card from your current US financial institute which will excellorate obtaining a credit score. Seek job prospects through reputable finance and accounting agencies. Robert Half is a very good one to work with if you have extensive financial/accounting experience and/or a degree/designation. The agencies will make this process much more smooth for you. If you have further questions feel free to inbox me. I'm an accountant and fully understand what you are experiencing. In Canada ALL financial and accounting positions check your credit along with a police screening nowadays.

  7. That's normal, your GC has been approved! Congrats.

    Thanks Old Dog Barking!

Kinda funny because I went into the USCIS office on August 7, with an info pass and asked to see an adjudicator. Once she arrived I asked her if she can pull my file and explain why I have not received any update since my May 18, 2012 interview. She obtained the file, perused it, looked at me and said they were confused because on 1 document i must have accidentally checked single instead of divorced. I said well maybe someone should have contacted me months ago or bring it up at my interview.

I though that was a stupid reason to hold me up considering all the other documents/pages showed divorced and I had included a divorce decree with the application I485. Any of you that are still waiting should go to your local office, request to have your file pulled from the fire room and have an officer (adjudicator) explain directly whats going on. Seems like they dont have time to call people in order to verify tiny errors. They would rather just sit on your file  *sigh* (that same night I received the email).
